Requirements
  • Proven administration and computer skills.
  • A good understanding of health and safety concepts, including hazard identification, fire safety, and emergency preparedness, and the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
  • A good level of written and spoken English, including business English.
  • An interest in food, health, safety, and/or environmental matters.
  • Ability to build effective relationships with operational teams and contractors.
  • Ability to work methodically and independently, with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office functions, including Word, Excel, and email, and other software applications.
  • A NEBOSH Certificate and Level 4 food safety certification are required or the candidate must commit to gaining them within the first two years of employment.
  • Proven experience in a health and safety or food safety role within hospitality, contract catering, or a similar fast-paced environment.
  • Experience supporting or leading Environmental Health Officer visits and audits, and comfort working with clients and regulatory bodies.
  • Strong understanding of HACCP, allergen management, and health and safety legislation relevant to catering operations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages to different audiences.
  • Skill in training, coaching, and influencing teams at all levels, from front-line chefs to senior managers.
  • Confidence using digital compliance tools and systems to manage documentation, monitor performance, and drive improvements.
  • Ability to provide a three-year employment history and five-year address history, provide in-date photographic identification, and pass a DBS check.
  • Right to work in the United Kingdom is required.
Responsibilities
  • Deliver and oversee onboarding training for all new starters, ensuring a strong foundation in safety and food hygiene.
  • Ensure ongoing refresher training is completed and recorded, and identify team training needs.
  • Lead preparations for internal and external audits and maintain hygiene and safety standards.
  • Work proactively with kitchen and service teams to maintain hygiene and safety standards.
  • Conduct regular walkarounds and spot checks, offer coaching, and address gaps.
  • Champion a safety culture in which team members understand and take ownership of their safety responsibilities.
  • Offer ongoing coaching and mentoring to managers, chefs, and team members.
  • Monitor and manage safety documentation, including temperature logs, cleaning records, allergen records, risk registers, and equipment maintenance logs.
  • Participate in planned Health and Safety Executive inspections and focused inspections covering manual handling, fire and food safety, and emergency preparedness.
  • Write inspection reports and other required reports.
  • Develop toolbox talks, safety flashes, safety alerts, and safe systems of work, and provide support for them.
