Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing required, or active enrollment in a Bachelor of Science in Nursing program; termination of the program without degree completion removes eligibility.
  • Minimum of three years of current experience in a progressive, intermediate, or critical care setting, with proficiency and in-depth knowledge of nursing practice.
  • Experience in a leadership role such as Charge Nurse.
  • Registered Nurse license in New Hampshire or a Compact Nursing License.
  • Basic Life Support authorization appropriate to the patient population.
  • Specialty certification required within six months of eligibility.
Responsibilities
  • Directly oversee and serve as the immediate first-line clinical resource to staff on the designated unit and shift.
  • Provide direct patient care or guide staff using clinical competencies appropriate to the specialty area.
  • Ensure smooth real-time operations of the unit on the assigned shift.
  • Participate in professional enhancement activities, including hospital-wide committees, health system initiatives, development of education materials, and professional association activities.
  • Provide leadership to the health care team in developing integrated approaches to care.
  • Collaborate with and serve as a resource to medical staff for relevant clinical and other issues.
  • Communicate questions and concerns to the Clinical Nurse Manager or Administrative Supervisor as appropriate.
  • Assist staff with patient care and assume a partial patient assignment.
  • Provide oversight of shift-based operations, including unit tasks, patient flow, interdisciplinary collaboration, patient satisfaction, issue resolution, and occurrence reporting.
  • Collaborate with the Clinical Nurse Manager to control costs through economical use of personnel, materials, and equipment.
  • Guide staff in identifying and addressing clinical concerns to promote optimal patient outcomes.
  • Coach and mentor staff, promote teamwork, and assess staff performance, behavior, and attendance on the assigned shift.
  • Serve as the designated shift resource for new graduate nurses during their first year of employment after orientation.
  • Collaborate with the Administrative Supervisor on immediate management and operational issues in the absence of the Clinical Nurse Manager, including staffing, scheduling, and disciplinary actions.
  • Support the department’s Shared Governance structure and be accountable for quality improvement outcomes.
