Requirements
  • Knowledge of financial aid legislation and internal and external reporting requirements, with the ability to objectively evaluate student aid eligibility in accordance with applicable guidelines.
  • Experience with PeopleSoft, National Student Loan Data System, ELM, FSA Portal, NASFAA, and Common Origination and Disbursement systems.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to set priorities and manage multiple high-priority tasks simultaneously.
  • Competence in oral and written English.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Experience in higher education or a financial aid environment is highly desirable.
  • Must be comfortable working in large, fast-paced institutional environments.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment in maintaining confidential data.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and execute.
  • May be required to work evenings and weekends.
  • A bachelor's degree is required.
  • Five years of experience in accounting and financial aid, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
Responsibilities
  • Develop financial aid packages for prospective and current students and exercise discretion when reviewing confidential information.
  • Train new counselors on financial-aid packaging procedures.
  • Assist with processing Satisfactory Academic Progress appeals.
  • Provide direction to the Systems Management Team and Student Finance regarding correct tuition setups as needed.
  • Manage the financial-aid process for all online programs and provide reporting strategies to support program changes.
  • Develop communication and presentation strategies for financial-wellness and debt-management sessions.
  • Oversee the annual loan-debt project and generate loan-debt reports by academic program for data analysis.
  • Provide thorough counseling to students.
  • Assist the Executive Director of Financial Aid and the Office of Financial Aid Management Team as needed.
  • Analyze FAFSA data for graduate students to determine federal-aid eligibility under federal methodology.
  • Assist the Associate Director in implementing and interpreting federal regulations and academic-program enrollment terms.
  • Use independent professional judgment to determine when to deviate from federal methodology and advise academic programs about over-awards or inappropriate institutional funding.
  • Implement and release federal funding holds when appropriate.
  • Monitor enrollment during drop/add and adjust aid budgets and financial aid to avoid over-awards.
  • Manage the financial-aid process for online programs and monitor student progression between full-time and part-time status.
  • Provide information about student issues and systems or information-technology problems to the Financial Aid Management Team and senior leadership.
  • Develop and enhance annual and quarterly federal Satisfactory Academic Progress reports.
  • Work with the Registrar, online-program directors, chairs, deans, and associate deans on federally mandated SAP reviews.
  • Advise students and academic programs about federal SAP standards and provide non-federal funding options when standards are not met.
  • Work with academic programs to document SAP-related academic counseling for future reinstatement of federal aid.
  • Assess students' financial situations and determine whether changed circumstances justify reviewing or modifying initial eligibility determinations.
  • Assist the Director in analyzing data and reports to ensure accurate financial-aid awarding and processing.
  • Monitor federal financial-aid regulations and assist the Director in developing compliance updates for students and staff.
  • Work with the Systems Team to design, test, and troubleshoot system procedures.
  • Monitor system functions to meet federal deadlines.
  • Use third-party, federal, and University data systems to troubleshoot issues, analyze federal loan portfolios, complete refund and repayment documentation, analyze transaction reports, and advise students and staff about billing and payment problems.
  • Oversee National Student Loan Data System transfer monitoring to prevent duplicate awards for mid-year transfer students.
  • Conduct webinars, group financial-aid orientations, group debt-management sessions, and individual exit sessions for graduating graduate and professional students.
  • Provide clear information about complex loan-repayment plans to exiting students.
  • Collaborate with Financial Aid, Bursar, Registrar, Admissions, Development, academic colleges and schools, and the Scholarship Committee to select and distribute scholarships and other financial aid.
  • Use Workday, SharePoint, U.S. Department of Education systems, and databases or tools to monitor, process, and adjust financial-aid awards.
  • Assist with the daily operations of the Financial Aid office.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
