Requirements
  • A Master's degree is required.
  • Experience as a former teacher and/or instructional administrator in a public school division is required.
  • At least three years of successful, full-time teaching experience is required.
  • Written or verbal recommendations from former supervisors or administrative colleagues are required.
  • A current or former state teaching license is required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Applicants must be able and willing to travel to any placement school sites and partner school divisions.
  • The appointment is restricted and limited to a specified term.
Responsibilities
  • Mentor and supervise William & Mary teacher candidates during their student teaching experience.
  • Serve as the instructor of record for student teaching.
  • Observe student teachers five times across a semester in K-12 public school settings.
  • Provide coaching and formative evaluations of student-teacher performance.
  • Provide written feedback to student teachers.
  • Facilitate conferences with each student-teacher and cooperating-teacher pair.
  • Complete two formal evaluations of each student teacher's performance.
  • Serve as a liaison between the university and area schools.
  • Attend one training session per year.

  • Educational coaching or mentoring experience, especially with novice teachers.
