About the job

Requirements
  • Deep experience building production-grade systems software, with technical ownership at Staff level.
  • Strong proficiency in Go and working knowledge of C or C++, with experience close to the operating system.
  • Solid knowledge of Linux internals, including filesystems, namespaces, processes, signals, and networking, with the ability to debug at that level.
  • Experience building distributed or cloud-native systems and understanding failure modes across multiple clouds.
  • Ability to write simple, well-structured, well-tested code optimized for clarity and debuggability.
  • Ability to work with ambiguity and drive work independently.
  • Willingness to use artificial intelligence extensively in engineering work.
Responsibilities
  • Design, build, and own low-level systems across Fusion, Fusion Snapshots, Ignite, and Sched.
  • Write reliable, well-tested code primarily in Go and C, with Rust and JVM technologies such as Groovy, Java, and Micronaut where needed.
  • Work close to the operating system on FUSE filesystems, Linux namespaces, CRIU checkpoint and restore, process supervision, signal handling, and static musl builds.
  • Build multi-cloud orchestration and scheduling capabilities, including provider abstractions for AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud Platform, instance selection, autoscaling, spot-instance fault tolerance, and durable asynchronous queues.
  • Drive performance engineering involving chunked input/output, multi-level caching, buffer pools, and bandwidth management.
  • Set technical direction and raise standards for testing, observability, and operational excellence.
  • Mentor teammates and help onboard new engineers.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with CRIU, checkpoint and restore, or process migration.
  • Experience with FUSE or other filesystem and virtual file system work.
  • Experience with Rust or JVM technologies such as Groovy, Java, and Micronaut.
  • Experience with container runtimes, Docker internals, or Kubernetes.
  • Experience with high-performance computing or batch systems such as AWS Batch, Google Batch, or Azure Batch.
  • Experience with applied machine learning or data engineering involving Groundswell.
  • Contributions to open-source systems.

About the company

Seqera Labs provides software to orchestrate data analysis pipelines in genomics and life sciences. Benchling utilizes Model Context Protocol to bridge scientific data with AI ecosystems.

Benchling utilizes Model Context Protocol to bridge scientific data with AI ecosystems. Published. April 30, 2026 Benchling has launched AI Connectors, a new integration suite built on the Model Context Protocol (MCP) designed to unify fragmented scientific and enterprise data streams. The platform, which supports over 1,300 biotech organizations including Merck and Moderna, aims to eliminate the manual "copy-paste" workflows that currently plague R&D. By establishing a standardized interface, the connectors allow researchers to pull context directly from institutional tools like SharePoint, Snowflake, and Notion into their experimental records. This bidirectional data flow ensures that AI agents can access the full breadth of a project's history - ranging from experiment records to internal institutional knowledge - without losing critical scientific context. The new capabilities also extend to specialized research tools, allowing scientists to query a deep index of over 8 million biomedical papers via Elicit and GXL without leaving their digital notebooks. Furthermore, the Benchling MCP Server enables external AI models, such as Claude and ChatGPT, to query structured laboratory records directly, providing researchers with answers grounded in verified experimental data. By integrating bioinformatics workflows from Seqera and large datasets via Amazon S3, the update seeks to turn Benchling into a centralized hub for the entire R&D lifecycle. Following a successful beta phase, the company expects general availability of the full MCP offering in May 2026.
