Requirements
  • An active registered nurse license issued in the state of Maryland is required.
  • At least one year of nursing experience is required.
  • An active certification in wound care is required.
  • Proven leadership skills are required to assure smooth unit or area operations and quality resident care.
  • Effective communication skills are required to facilitate positive interpersonal interaction.
  • The ability to interact with others in a considerate, helpful, and courteous manner is required.
Responsibilities
  • Oversee all direct wound-care activities to assure practices are consistent.
  • Identify, plan, implement, and evaluate skin care in residents.
  • Manage and treat specific skin disorders.
  • Coordinate weekly skin rounds.
  • Perform assessment evaluations using techniques including observation and inspection.
  • Confer with the care-planning team in the development of the care plan.
  • Provide treatment for skin disorders within established wound-care protocol.
  • Monitor the use of preventive measures such as inspection, turning, and positioning.
  • Precept new nurses and demonstrate individual procedures to new nursing personnel.
  • Order and track the usage of supplies and equipment in prevention and treatment.
  • Assist in modifying the treatment regimen to meet the needs of the resident in accordance with established medical practices, regulatory guidelines, and the policies and goals of the facility.
  • Provide information to residents and caregivers on prevention techniques and other ways to maintain or improve the general health and psychosocial status of the resident.
  • Participate in the Performance Improvement program as assigned, such as the wound and nutrition committee.
  • Participate in the planning and conducting of in-service training classes concerning dermatologic nursing skills and procedures used within the facility.
  • Abide by the standards identified in FutureCare’s Statement of Corporate Ethics and Corporate Compliance Plan.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with residents’ skin care working in a skilled nursing facility is preferred.
