Baker Act Coordinator - Adult PsychiatryThe Baker Act Coordinator oversees all Baker Act requirements, as well all submissions to court, in order to ensure compliance with Florida’s Baker Act Law.

- High School Diploma or GED equivalent required
- A minimum of six (6) months direct clinical experience in a health care environment. Hospital or behavioral health setting preferred.  
- Knowledge of medical terminology and prior experience with BA/MA preferred.
- Provides required and ongoing Baker Act training to all staff to insure compliance with regulatory requirements, i.e. BA Compliance.
- The Baker Act Coordinator oversees all Baker Act requirements, as well all submissions to court, in order to ensure compliance with Florida’s Baker Act Law.
- Excellent communications, verbal and written skills are a must.
- Ensures timely submission of all required court documents, attends court hearings and facilitates/communicates with all parties involved in the court process
- Adherence to timelines related to transition from involuntary to voluntary admission, monitoring of first and second opinion deadlines, with timely filing of Petitions for Involuntary Placement with local Court guidelines. Mental Health/BA Court processes as follows:
- Review charts daily for status of Baker Acts and update legal status in EMR
- Keep Court Roster up to date and accurate, ensure any changes are communicated to Team
- For times when Baker Act Coordinator is not on site, such as evenings and weekends, email notification to Leadership staff and all Providers, of all Baker Act timeframes: such as BA52 expiration, 1st or 2nd opinion timelines, voluntary to involuntary status.  Email sent Provides Baker Acts spreadsheet Leadership and Provider’s daily to ensure Baker Act compliance. If BA is due to expire within 24 hours, the Baker Act Coordinator or designee, will do the following:
- Communicate to the physician or charge nurse for immediate attention
- Complete the “Cover Sheet to the Department of Children and Families” Baker Act reporting form daily;
- Solves problems and utilizes appropriate resources to maintain harmonious relationships within & outside the Department
- Assist with back up of front desk and unit clerk duties and performs any other duties as assigned or directed by the Supervisor
