Junior Applications Engineer

The Jr. Application Engineer plays an important role in maintaining the stability, usability, and effectiveness of these systems. Working alongside experienced technology professionals, this position helps ensure business-critical applications remain secure, accessible, and optimized to support organizational needs.

Success in this role means becoming a trusted contributor within the Technology team—resolving issues efficiently, improving documentation and user adoption, supporting system governance, and helping create a seamless experience for application users across the organization. What you’ll do

1. Support Business-Critical Applications

• Support the daily administration and maintenance of third-party applications used across the organization.
• Troubleshoot application issues and coordinate resolutions with internal stakeholders and external vendors.
• Respond to user requests, incidents, and service inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
• Monitor application performance and identify opportunities to improve reliability and user experience.
• Escalate complex issues appropriately while maintaining ownership and follow-through.

2. Strengthen System Governance and Security

• Assist in administering user accounts, permissions, and access controls across supported platforms.
• Support the implementation and enforcement of application security policies and procedures.
• Help ensure compliance with audit requirements through accurate user access reviews and documentation.
• Participate in ongoing efforts to improve application security, governance, and operational controls.
• Maintain data integrity and confidentiality within supported environments.

3. Improve Documentation and Knowledge Sharing

• Partner with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to develop and maintain application documentation.
• Update knowledge base articles, support documentation, and user guides to improve issue resolution.
• Contribute to training materials that help internal and external users maximize application effectiveness.
• Capture lessons learned, system changes, and process updates to support organizational knowledge retention.
• Promote self-service resources that improve user adoption and reduce recurring support requests.

4. Drive Operational Excellence

• Assist with application configurations, updates, testing, and implementation activities.
• Support technology initiatives and projects that enhance business processes and systems capabilities.
• Identify opportunities to streamline workflows and improve operational efficiency.
• Collaborate across Technology and business teams to ensure solutions align with organizational objectives.
• Develop a strong understanding of the organization's application ecosystem and technology standards.

5. Build Technical Expertise and Professional Growth

• Learn from experienced engineers and technology leaders through mentorship and hands-on experience.
• Develop foundational expertise in enterprise applications, systems administration, and IT operations.
• Stay current on emerging technologies, platform capabilities, and industry best practices.
• Participate in training and professional development opportunities to expand technical skills.
• Contribute to a collaborative, high-performance team environment focused on continuous improvement.

What you bring

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field; equivalent IT work experience may be considered.
• 0–2 years of experience supporting software applications, systems administration, technical support, or related technology functions.
• Strong interest in enterprise software applications, system administration, and technology operations.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting capabilities.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering quality work.

Technical Skills

• Understanding of software applications, user administration, and access management concepts.
• Familiarity with troubleshooting application and system-related issues.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and business productivity tools.
• Ability to learn new platforms and technologies quickly.
• Experience documenting processes, procedures, or technical information is a plus.

Preferred Qualifications

• Internship, co-op, academic project, or professional experience supporting business applications.
• Exposure to enterprise software platforms, cloud applications, or IT service management processes.
• Familiarity with knowledge management, technical documentation, or user training development.
• Understanding of information security principles and access control practices.
• Experience working in transportation, logistics, supply chain, or other operationally complex industries is preferred but not required.

Compensation & Setup

• Pay: $44,000–$55,000 annual base salary
• Location: Hybrid - Downers Grove, IL
• Benefits: Comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, retirement savings options, paid time off, and other company-sponsored programs, subject to eligibility
