Requirements
  • Ability to react in a calm functional manner and make sound judgments within scope of duties when taking care of ill patients/residents and in the event of emergencies.
  • Job requires lifting of patients/residents who are non-ambulatory on a regular interval.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic Life Support certification.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant certificate from an accredited program.
  • Current full, unrestricted Certified Nursing Assistant license in the state of Alaska.
  • Current Basic Life Support certification must be obtained within 3 months of hire and prior to completion of clinical orientation; biannually thereafter.
  • Experience of 1 year prior experience as a CNA preferred.
Responsibilities
  • Promotes the SEARHC Seven Standards of Excellence.
  • Obtains nursing data through interviewing and observing patients/residents under a licensed nurse's direction and review; documents observation findings that are consistent with other providers under a licensed nurse's supervision; provides general nursing care for the adult and geriatric population.
  • Monitors and records temperature, pulse, respiration, weight, height, blood pressure, pulse oximetry and intake-output measurements.
  • Collects and transports specimens to correct departments.
  • Reports changes observed in condition or behavior of patients/residents and unusual incidents.
  • Provides bedside care including positioning, lifting and turning patients/residents, assisting in use of bedpan, urinal or commode, answering call lights, making rounds, ambulating patients, transporting to departments, assisting with meals, and caring for patients' belongings.
  • Assists LN with readiness for medivac transport including coordinating phone calls, copying papers, charting, and direct patient care.
  • Provides 1:1 care/sitting for patients/residents when indicated for patient/resident safety.
  • Maintains a safe and clean environment by preparing nursing areas, rooms, beds for admissions, transfers, emergencies or discharges; assists in cleaning equipment; reports equipment out of order; handles clean and dirty linen; stores supplies; floats to other departments as needed.
  • Performs daily supply duties including distributing and ordering supplies to maintain stock levels.
  • Disposes of all solid and infectious waste according to policies; replenishes supplies in patient/resident rooms and bathrooms.
  • Participates in in-services and educational programs; completes mandatory training and annual competencies; participates in patient/resident care conferences; attends at least 75 percent of staff meetings.
