Epia Neuro develops neural technologies to restore function for people with neurological conditions, focusing on post-stroke motor impairment. Its lead platform uses a minimally invasive skull-placed read/write brain–computer interface paired with AI-powered software to translate neural intent into action, fusing neural signals with data from external sensors to drive assistive devices like a grip-assist glove. The system is implanted in under an hour, is wirelessly rechargeable, and modular to allow future upgrades without additional surgery, offering an integrated hardware and software solution. The company aims to restore daily independence for stroke survivors and expand to cognitive decline and other neurological disorders, targeting a multi-billion-dollar market.

Simplify Jobs

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • Epia launched in April 2026 with 45 employees and pharma-backed funding.
  • First-in-human demonstrations at Lenox Hill Hospital are slated for later 2026.
  • The initial stroke market exceeds $5 billion, supported by durable assistive-device reimbursement.

What critics are saying

  • Neuralink and Precision Neuroscience already run larger, faster-moving clinical programs in 2026.
  • FDA submission targets February 2027, leaving Epia vulnerable to trial delays or safety setbacks.
  • A negative first-in-human result at Lenox Hill would kill reimbursement and cognitive-decline expansion.

What makes Epia Neuro unique

  • Michel Maharbiz and Gil Mandelbaum bring iota Biosciences neural-interface commercialization experience.
  • Epia’s skull-mounted implant avoids dura penetration and fits standard hospital neurosurgery workflows.
  • The platform combines intent decoding, stimulation, and assistive devices for lifelong stroke support.
