Requirements
  • A high school diploma and one year of related work experience in an administrative office or customer service field are required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • The ability to word-process documents and enter data into a database is preferred.
  • Skills related to achieving customer satisfaction are preferred.
  • Experience with medical terminology is preferred.
Responsibilities
  • Coordinate functions associated with visits to the Emergency Department and ensure they are completed accurately, efficiently, and in a patient- and customer-friendly manner.
  • Facilitate departmental workflow by supporting clinical staff.
  • Greet patients, request identification, and collect and verify demographic and financial information.
  • Initiate emergency-department medical and financial records and identify forms needed for specific visits.
  • Assemble emergency-department charts for admissions and discharges, ensuring paperwork is completed and distributed appropriately.
  • Edit and correct registration and billing errors, identify ways to reduce follow-up and corrective work, use eRecord programs, and manage the patient-tracking system.
  • Provide department-specific training and orientation to other EDAS staff as a designated preceptor, serve as an information resource, attend department education programs, and teach other staff.
  • Complete full patient registration before discharge, verify insurance for new and self-pay patients, follow up on hold-bill reports, and collect co-pays.
  • Triage patient calls, assess urgency, determine appropriate action, handle complaints, answer and route incoming calls, and coordinate transportation for discharged or transferred patients.
  • Monitor inventory, order supplies, escort patients, offer comfort items, witness consent signatures, fax charts, pull charts for quality-assurance audits or patient-care follow-up, manage forms and supplies, and respond to clinical-staff requests.
