- A minimum of 8 years of full-time paid professional experience managing facilities design or planning and coordinating capital projects that included overall design, contract administration, cost estimating, and scheduling activities.
- At least 4 years of the required experience must involve the design, planning, and construction of educational facilities or similar public agencies.
- A bachelor's degree in architecture or engineering.
- A valid Certificate of Registration as an Architect by the California State Architectural Board or Professional Engineer by the State Board for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors is preferred.
- Proof of residency in Southern California is required.
- An updated resume, certifications or licenses obtained, three to four professional references, and a project list with project values, dates, and companies must be provided during the submission process.
Responsibilities
- Manage, develop, and coordinate the district's design process for architectural and engineering services to ensure plans meet functional program, budgetary, environmental, and legal requirements.
- Manage multiple projects, including engineering repair and critical repair, through interaction with architects, consultants, and district personnel to ensure timely completion.
- Oversee the building design process to ensure compliance with Los Angeles Unified School District standards and guidelines by working with design professionals and district administrators.
- Establish and follow a process to identify and select the architectural firm best suited for each project based on qualifications and ability to meet performance standards.
- Provide architects with clear and consistent direction regarding goals and objectives, standards, site, schedule, and budget for each project.
- Establish and follow an effective and efficient design review process to ensure designs meet overall project goals and objectives.
- Ensure maximum value for budgeted dollars and that solutions appropriately and enduringly meet the functional needs of the district, local community, and environment.
- Review design changes to ensure projects remain within budget.
- Monitor project planning and design status and report findings, recommendations, and updates.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
