Job Description

Locus is planning the development of novel manipulation capabilities that are beyond what is currently commercially available. We’re seeking a Principal Engineer who is a subject matter expert in the theory and real-world application of AI, Machine Learning, Vision, and Robotics.  

The candidate will be a formative part of assembling a larger team, with the goal of building up AI and Manipulation capabilities, to enable new applications within the material handling space.  The candidate will be chiefly responsible for architecting frameworks for these technologies and planning technical roadmaps.   

• Plan and build AI models and supporting architectures for object identification, segmentation, and grasping. 
• Evaluate and assist potential partners in the implementation of external tools and technologies. 
• Provide input to scope requirements and feasibility for future robotic applications.  
• Build and iterate prototype designs to incrementally improve performance 
• Help key stakeholders understand the performance and limitations of AI Systems. 
• Work cross-functionally with other teams to ensure a successful path to product deployment.  
• Help grow an amazing robotics team 
• Scope of the role is expected to evolve over time.  

Qualifications

• PhD (or Master’s Degree with 10+ Years of industry experience) in Robotics, Engineering, or related field)  
• 7+ years of experience with physical AI applications such as robot perception, grasping, manipulation, and path planning. 
• Experience working in C++ and Python  
• Experience working in Linux environments  
• Expertise in AI Frameworks deployed on edge devices such as TensorFlow or Caffe  
• Experience with custom neural network designs and training methods  
• Experience with project management and team leadership  
• Excellent collaborative, communication, and documentation skills  
• Experience with ROS
