Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent in Parks and Recreation Administration or a related field is required; six years of direct experience may be substituted for the four-year degree, or a combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • At least one year of experience working in parks and recreation or a related field is required.
  • Basic first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and automated external defibrillator certification is required within three months of hire.
Responsibilities
  • Oversee the athletics department at Harris Park Community Center and Hartman Park.
  • Plan, program, develop, organize, supervise, coordinate, and evaluate comprehensive recreation services across assigned divisions, including youth and adult athletics, camps, and tournaments.
  • Directly supervise volunteers, part-time employees, and contract professionals for recreation programs, leagues, and events.
  • Recommend hiring, disciplinary, advancement, and other employee-status actions.
  • Prepare, administer, and monitor assigned budgets with direction and oversight.
  • Recruit, select, supervise, train, and appraise volunteer and part-time personnel, and maintain accurate payroll records.
  • Develop and implement diversified recreation programs based on community demand.
  • Promote assigned division activities and programs.
  • Schedule classes, programs, facilities, special events, and activities.
  • Evaluate activities through observation, participant contact, and written surveys, and determine needs for specific activities and programs.
  • Monitor and oversee marketing efforts for assigned facilities and programs, including social media, and collaborate with the Marketing and Communication Manager on large-scale efforts.
  • Update and maintain websites, social media, and event pages for assigned areas.
  • Ensure equipment is available for activity setup and takedown, and maintain current supply inventories.
  • Maintain daily cash receipts and open and close facilities as needed.
  • Maintain personnel records, payroll records, and master files for programs and facilities.
  • Prepare work schedules and assignments for direct reports.
  • Ensure enforcement of park and recreation rules and regulations.
  • Perform activities necessary to ensure participant safety.
  • Assist with preparation of program and facility budgets, analyze revenues, expenditures, attendance, and service hours, and ensure compliance with approved budgets.
  • Purchase program supplies and equipment according to department procedures.
  • Develop instructional or recreational curricula and teach programs as needed.
  • Coordinate volunteers for recreation programs and special events.
  • Collaborate with other department divisions to ensure service delivery aligns with department missions and objectives.
  • Secure contract service providers and ensure compliance with contractual responsibilities.
  • Collect and compile patron feedback about programs, facilities, and events, and respond and report according to established procedures.
  • Attend assigned, directed, or required meetings.
  • Serve as staff for assigned special events.
  • Serve as a member of the Park Visit team as assigned.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Leadership experience in parks and recreation or a related field is preferred.
  • Certified Parks and Recreation Professional certification is preferred.
