Requirements
  • Licensed to practice independently as a professional counselor in Texas or able to obtain license to practice independently in Texas within one year if licensed in another state
  • Licensed to practice independently as a Clinical Social Worker in Texas or able to obtain license to practice independently in Texas within one year if licensed in another state
  • Master’s Degree in Counseling, Counseling Psychology, Clinical Psychology, or Social Work or other degree which meets eligibility requirement in Texas for licensure
  • Two years post masters clinical experience in college or university counseling center or other relevant clinical setting
  • Experience in high demand outpatient or inpatient mental health setting
  • Demonstrated experience in providing brief individual therapy, crisis intervention, group therapy, care coordination, and case management
  • Experience providing culturally competent treatment to a diverse client population
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and communication skills
Responsibilities
  • Triage clients by conducting brief clinical assessments to determine level of care and disposition
  • Intervene with students in crisis and provide support, resources, and information
  • Conduct initial assessments of students' presenting concerns
  • Maintain timely, accurate, and complete documentation of all service contacts as required by center policies and procedures
  • Develop and implement a good blend of programmatic interventions which address the psycho-social mental health needs of students as applicable
  • Provide clinical consultation to others on an as-needed basis and seek consultation when appropriate
  • Provide urgent care services as necessary to students
  • Work collaboratively and cooperatively with other mental health professionals on CMHC's multidisciplinary staff and other university departments and organizations
  • Develop linkages with key contacts of the designated population or issue for the purpose of developing and implementing programmatic interventions which generate substantial participation by students
  • Review client record to determine the progress, effectiveness, and appropriateness of treatment services offered
  • Maintain current, accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with state and federal law, professional ethics, and Counseling and Mental Health Center, CMHC, policies
  • Coordinate referrals between CMHC and university or community service providers
  • Assist the Program Director for Access and Referral Services in implementing the CMHC triage system and other clinical services
  • Attend and participate in departmental and division meetings and staff development programs as assigned
  • Participate in the prevention and outreach team meetings by contributing new ideas, engaging in problem solving and seeking better ways to impact the mental health needs of students
  • Comply with all CMHC and UT policies, procedures, and guidelines
  • Provision of training activities such as individual supervision, preceptorships, apprenticeships, co-leading and supervising therapy groups, and leading trainee seminars
  • Provide individual supervision of interns, practicum students, or psychiatric residents
  • Provide individual supervision of group co-leaders
  • Supervise interns' supervision of practicum students
  • Co-lead training seminars
  • Offer and supervise preceptorships and apprenticeships for interns
  • Participate on training-related committees
  • Participate in training activities during the orientation period
  • Timely signature on clinical documentation and communication with supervisor of relevant issues
  • Other related functions as assigned
Desired Qualifications
  • Knowledge and experience in working with serious mental illness
  • At least 3 years of significant experience in providing short-term individual counseling and crisis intervention services to a culturally diverse population
  • At least 3 years of demonstrated experience in high demand outpatient or inpatient mental health settings
  • At least 3 years of experience providing crisis intervention, triage, care coordination, and brief therapy to young adults and/or college students
  • Experience working in a college/university counseling center or community-based mental health setting
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with campus personnel, such as professionals in academic affairs and other student services providers or ability to work effectively with non-mental health professional colleagues
  • Ability to work effectively with a multidisciplinary team of mental health providers
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a large system, and to participate and collaborate effectively in a large mental health services agency
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain a flexible yet highly organized working style
  • Licensed as an LCSW/LPC for a minimum of two years
