About the role
We are currently seeking a Resident Engineer to oversee and manage transportation and infrastructure projects in Region 8, supporting work across Westchester and Putnam Counties. This is a leadership role ideal for a seasoned professional with a strong background in heavy civil and transportation construction, contract administration, and team management. The Resident Engineer will serve as the primary point of contact for the project, ensuring compliance with agency standards, maintaining quality control, and leading coordination among all project stakeholders.
What you'll do
- Provide day-to-day oversight of construction activities, ensuring work aligns with contract documents, schedules, and agency requirements.
- Supervise and support field inspection staff, reviewing their reports, logs, and documentation for accuracy and completeness.
- Interpret and enforce construction drawings, specifications, and project plans.
- Manage contractor performance, monitor progress, and proactively address issues to maintain project timelines and quality.
- Lead coordination meetings with contractors, consultants, and agency representatives; prepare meeting agendas and minutes.
- Review and approve daily inspection reports, field test results, and construction materials for compliance.
- Oversee preparation and verification of construction quantities for progress payments and change orders.
- Maintain thorough and organized project documentation, including logs, RFIs, submittals, and correspondence.
- Utilize project management tools such as SiteManager to track activities, document field conditions, and facilitate reporting.
- Ensure adherence to safety protocols and work zone traffic control standards.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field is required.
- NICET IV certification in Transportation/Highway Construction is required.
- Minimum of 6–10 years of relevant experience in transportation or heavy civil construction, with at least 3 years in a Resident Engineer or similar leadership role.
- Strong working knowledge of NYSDOT standards, specifications, and documentation practices.
- Proficiency with SiteManager and other relevant project management tools.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.

The expected salary range for this role in the New York City Metropolitan Area is $65 - $75 per hour. The total compensation, including salary and bonuses, is determined by various factors such as experience, skill level, location, and qualifications, which are evaluated during the interview process
