Petre Barac Posted On September 10, 2026 1.7K Views Technology company AUMOVIO is unveiling the distributed brake system, the latest generation of its electrohydraulic brakes, delivering greater performance in a compact design. The first order from a major Chinese vehicle manufacturer has already been received, with production scheduled to start at the end of 2027. The distributed brake combines an advanced one box brake with an Electronic Stability Control (ESC) system. It operates fully electronically from the brake pedal through to the fallback level and makes use of modern electrical/electronic (E/E) architectures. This allows the actuators to be designed smaller and lighter. The system frees up valuable installation space - for example, for a larger high-voltage battery - and enables more flexible actuator placement in the vehicle. At the same time, the distributed brake delivers greater performance than previous one box systems, making it particularly suitable for demanding applications such as highly automated driving. "The mobility of the future is automated, electric, and increasingly based on new vehicle architectures. This transformation will not happen overnight, but step by step. With our solutions ranging from electrohydraulic to fully dry braking systems, our customers can draw on a very broad product portfolio. The new distributed brake system expands this portfolio even further. It gives our customers even greater flexibility, efficiency, and powerful performance. With its first series order, our new system is taking an important step toward high-volume production." - Boris Mergell, Head of the Safety and Motion business area at AUMOVIO For the distributed brake system, AUMOVIO leverages the E/E architecture of modern vehicles. It includes multiple power supply points and redundant electrical networks. Such architecture meets the requirements for braking systems without a hydraulic fallback, which must be equipped with a redundant system including its own electrical circuit. Since the driver's braking commands are transmitted electrically and no hydraulic fallback with a mechanical connection to the driver is required, almost all braking system components - except for the electronic brake pedal - can be positioned freely in the front section of the vehicle. This flexibility supports new vehicle concepts and enables optimized use of installation space, for example using larger batteries that extend vehicle range. The distributed brake system is suitable for many different vehicle types, as not only fully electric and hybrid vehicles but also many new combustion-engine vehicles are equipped with such redundant E/E architectures. The absence of a mechanical-hydraulic connection between the brake pedal and braking system provides further benefits for the distributed brake system. For example, the air gap between the brake disc and brake caliper can be increased because brake pressure in the fallback level is built up electronically with greater precision and speed than before. This reduces unwanted friction between the brake disc and brake caliper. At the same time, a single e-pedal braking system can be used for a wide range of vehicle architectures. Instead of slightly different variants, for example for left- or right-hand drive, combustion-engine or electric vehicles, all vehicles can be equipped with the same e-pedal braking solution. This significantly reduces the number of variants and helps lower development, manufacturing, and logistics costs for both suppliers and car manufacturers.

The new solutions will make their debut at IAA Transportation 2026 in Hanover and are designed for commercial vehicle fleets operating electric buses, trucks and special-purpose vehicles at depots, fleet yards and company sites, according to information reported by its sister media Sustainable Truck & Van. The portfolio extends AUMOVIO's activities from onboard vehicle technologies into charging infrastructure and its integration with fleet operations. For bus operators, the offering combines physical charging equipment with vehicle and charging data through the VDO Fleet Ecosystem. AUMOVIO became an independent company in September 2025 following the spin-off of Continental's former Automotive group sector. The technology and electronics company develops solutions across vehicle safety, connectivity, electronics and automated and autonomous driving. The company is also active in bus and coach components with ProViu Mirror, a digital rear-view system using high-resolution cameras and in-cab displays to replace conventional exterior mirrors. AUMOVIO targets electric bus depots with VDO charging infrastructure. The new VDO charging infrastructure portfolio includes AC and DC charging stations, ranging from mobile charging equipment to high-power systems for fleet applications. Electric bus depots are among the applications specifically identified by AUMOVIO, alongside logistics and distribution operations, municipal and industrial fleets and company sites. Charging installations can also be combined with energy infrastructure including photovoltaic generation and battery storage. The charging equipment is designed to connect with the VDO Fleet Ecosystem rather than operate as a standalone infrastructure layer. Data from vehicles, chargers and other digital applications can be combined within the platform, providing information on charging status, energy consumption, vehicle availability and active charging sessions. For bus fleet operations, the system can therefore provide information on which vehicles are available and which require charging, while charging sessions can be coordinated with daily fleet schedules. Partner solutions can additionally provide data about charger availability within the depot. The new charging portfolio adds an infrastructure component to AUMOVIO's existing commercial vehicle technologies, which already include vehicle-to-charger communication control units, energy and charging management systems, battery and onboard electrical functions. VDO Fleet Ecosystem connects vehicle and charging data. The VDO Fleet Ecosystem provides the digital layer connecting the new charging equipment with information generated by vehicles and other fleet applications. AUMOVIO says the approach is intended for fleet environments where vehicle availability, charging requirements and operational schedules have to be managed together. The company is addressing both charging infrastructure and the exchange of information between the vehicle, charger and fleet management platform. AUMOVIO also supplies OEM technologies covering battery and energy management and charging communication, together with software and engineering services for vehicle integration and validation. Its IAA Transportation portfolio will additionally include battery management systems, cell contacting systems and DC/DC converters. Aumovio, the global automotive supplier spun off from Continental, is betting that a single low-cost sensor will bring driver assistance systems to India's smallest, cheapest cars. However, these till now, have been limited to premium segment cars, and even then available mostly in their top variants. However, that situation may change soon. Aumovio is planning to launch a more cost effective ADAS in India. It has developed a single smart camera ADAS system, that it calls a "1V" system, which gives few key driver assistance functions without the need of radar, lidar or multi-camera systems typical of ADAS in use currently. ADAS Without Radar or Lidar Speaking to Autocar Professional, Prashanth Doreswamy, Aumovio's India head, said "We have developed a system for the Indian market where it can work for some of the extended assisted functions like lane departure warning, lane keep assist, or be emergency break assist, and some of the functions like this. It can work with one single camera, a smart camera." The single-camera unit supports lane departure warning, lane-keep assist, emergency brake assist and adaptive cruise control. Aumovio says this qualifies it as an L2 system, with a path to L2+ through software updates rather than additional hardware. On cost, the company has not disclosed per unit price but says a single-camera architecture is inherently cheaper to build and integrate than the multi-camera, radar-fusion systems, while still delivering necessary advanced safety functions. Adapting AI Algorithms The camera is AI-enabled, built on deep-learning techniques that the company says are similar to those behind modern AI LLM systems, which allows the system to keep improving its reading of driving environments over time and adapt to local conditions including the unpredictability of Indian traffic. Aumovio says the camera is already in series production and fitted across multiple vehicle programmes globally, with deployments live in China, the ASEAN region and Europe, and rollouts are under way in Australia, New Zealand, North America andl European markets. In India, Aumovio is in discussions with multiple OEMs for a local launch, though it has not committed to a timeline. Bharat NCAP 2.0 Impact India's transport ministry has proposed Bharat NCAP 2.0, a revised crash-rating framework due to take effect from October 2027. Bharat NCAP 2.0 replaces the current two-pillar scoring system with a hundred-point, five-pillar assessment which will include crash performance, vulnerable road user protection and, accident avoidance technology. The revised protocol will score vehicles on how well they help avoid crashes and protect people outside the vehicle, alongside the crash test itself. Accident-avoidance and driver-assistance systems will carry roughly a fifth of the total score, meaning cars without ADAS provision risk being capped at lower star ratings regardless of crash-test performance. Electronic stability control and curtain airbags are set to become mandatory prerequisites for any star rating under the draft framework, with a five-star result requiring at least 70 of 100 points between 2027 and 2029, rising to 80 points from 2029. For manufacturers targeting the sub-Rs 10 lakh segment where margins are thin, a cost effective ADAS architecture can be a gamechanger helping them score higher in crash test.

AUMOVIO India's Women for Manufacturing programme has supported 2,700 women with skilling, certification, workplace exposure and placement support. AUMOVIO India, the Indian unit of German technology and electronics company AUMOVIO, said its five-year 'Women for Manufacturing' initiative has enabled 2,700 women to gain industry-relevant skills and access employment opportunities in the manufacturing sector. The programme has reported an 80 percent placement rate. Implemented annually since FY2021, the initiative combines technical skilling, certification, on-the-job exposure and placement linkages. It has been implemented across manufacturing hubs in Karnataka, Haryana, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha and Gujarat. The programme has supported women in roles including CNC machine operations, assembly line operations and other manufacturing-linked functions. According to AUMOVIO India, the initiative is intended to provide a pathway from training and certification to workplace exposure and formal employment. AUMOVIO women for Manufacturing programme expands across five phases. The initiative has been rolled out in five phases. The first phase trained 200 women, followed by 690 in phase two, 1,200 in phase three and 610 in phase four. Phase five is currently underway and has already reached nearly 1,000 women. AUMOVIO said the programme has also resulted in first-time employment for many participants, income generation and increased household contribution. It added that the initiative is intended to contribute to a broader skilled workforce for India's manufacturing sector. Industry partners support manufacturing placements. The programme is being implemented with support from industry partners involved in facilitating placement and employment opportunities. Third-party assessment and certification are also part of the programme, with the stated objective of providing independent evaluation and maintaining industry relevance. Prashanth Doreswamy, President and CEO, AUMOVIO India, said the initiative is focused on improving access to manufacturing roles for women, particularly in areas where female participation has traditionally been lower. He attributed the programme's outcomes to industry-aligned skilling, partnerships and continued implementation over five years. Aparna Singh, Director - Programs & Operations, Centum Foundation, said the partnership with AUMOVIO has supported more than 2,700 women in transitioning into the workforce through employment-linked and industry-relevant skilling. AUMOVIO and Centum Foundation said the initiative will continue to focus on providing access to industrial roles, supporting women's career progression and developing employment pathways through collaboration between industry, implementation partners, assessment agencies and employers.

AUMOVIO sells Czech washer and cleaning unit to CERTINA Group

AUMOVIO has agreed to sell its Czech washer and cleaning business to Munich-based CERTINA Group as part of ongoing portfolio streamlining. The deal, announced on 3 September, covers production, R&D, employees and all related activities at the Adrspach headquarters, which employs around 700 people. Financial terms were not disclosed. The business manufactures cleaning systems including window washers and camera, sensor and headlamp cleaning systems. Closing is expected by end-2026, subject to customary conditions. CERTINA will integrate the unit into its automotive platform, which generates around €600m annually. The disposal follows AUMOVIO's sale of its Belgian Mechelen site and plans to cut up to 4,000 jobs globally by end-2026. AUMOVIO reported first-half 2026 sales of €8.65bn, down 9.4% year-on-year, with a net loss of €597m.
