Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in chemistry or a related field is required.
  • A minimum of 2 years of laboratory experience is required.
  • Working knowledge of aseptic sampling techniques, automated laboratory equipment, and acceptable methods and procedures is required.
  • Broad knowledge of the concepts, practices, and procedures of a food testing laboratory is required.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted.
  • Dexterity of the hands and fingers is required to operate a computer keyboard and mouse and handle other communication and computer components.
  • The role may involve exposure to odors, fumes, airborne particles, hazardous chemicals, and microbiological pathogens.
  • Color vision and depth perception are required.
  • The role requires regularly lifting and moving up to 25 pounds.
  • Required training must be completed.
Responsibilities
  • Assist in the chemical testing of food products, ingredients, and other matrices, including solution and reagent preparation, sample homogenization, proximate analysis chemistry instrument use, chemistry extractions and procedures, and glassware maintenance.
  • Prepare and maintain chemical solutions.
  • Apply standard laboratory techniques in the daily workload.
  • Inventory and report expendable supplies and materials needed for testing requirements.
  • Provide routine preventive maintenance through daily cleaning, sanitizing, and trash disposal.
  • Independently perform assigned processes, procedures, or techniques in accordance with company policies, procedures, and customer requirements.
  • Maintain laboratory conditions, equipment, supplies, quality assurance programs, and accurate records throughout all procedures.
  • Perform activities in a safe, hygienic, and efficient manner.
  • Share information in an open and timely manner.
  • Maintain laboratory workspaces in a clean and organized manner.
  • Manage priorities and schedules so that individual and team goals are achieved.
  • Maintain responsibility for personal and workplace safety.
  • Travel, including overnight travel, may be required at management's discretion.
Desired Qualifications
  • Training in general laboratory practices is preferred.
  • A BS degree in Life Science or a related field is preferred.
  • Ability to travel is preferred.
