Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent.
  • Two to four years of relevant experience.
  • Two to four years of experience in compensation analysis, design, and administration.
  • Hands-on experience with market pricing, salary surveys, and compensation-data benchmarking.
  • Experience in data analysis, reporting, and presenting compensation-related insights.
  • Experience with human resources information systems, such as Workday.
  • Proficiency in Excel, including pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, and data modeling for compensation analysis.
  • Proficiency in analyzing large datasets to inform compensation decisions and identify trends.
  • Familiarity with compensation-related regulations, including the Fair Labor Standards Act, pay equity laws, and wage and hour compliance.
  • Proven ability to partner with HR teams, leadership, and external vendors to support compensation programs.
  • Experience managing or contributing to projects such as annual merit reviews, pay structure design, or policy updates.
Responsibilities
  • Provide guidance to university representatives on job leveling, Fair Labor Standards Act classifications, and pay-band classifications for new and modified staff positions.
  • Review position descriptions for appropriate language, titles, and minimum qualifications in preparation for job postings and reclassifications.
  • Draft job descriptions based on unit requirements as needed.
  • Partner with the Compensation team on individual position assessments and full department or unit reviews.
  • Assess job classification, equity, market, and organizational factors.
  • Provide consultation and workforce-planning support for reorganization requests.
  • Conduct market-pricing and benchmarking studies to support competitive pay practices.
  • Analyze survey data to evaluate compensation relative to industry standards.
  • Recommend adjustments to salary structures based on market trends.
  • Lead the salary-survey submission process and work with survey vendors as needed.
  • Upload surveys to MarketPay and complete the annual survey migration.
  • Prepare reports on compensation trends, pay disparities, and market competitiveness.
  • Audit compensation programs for accuracy and fairness.
  • Use HRIS systems to analyze data and develop compensation insights.
  • Respond to professional salary surveys with team members as requested.
  • Prepare compensation job profiles, position matches, and data compilations in the MarketPay online market-pricing application.
  • Attend training sessions and webinars to stay current on changes to Compensation applications.
  • Participate in cross-functional Human Resources working groups on audits, reporting, and analytics projects.
  • Conduct Workday testing and configuration updates.
  • Support annual compensation programs, including union increases, merit increases, and equity increases.
  • Serve as a Compensation subject-matter expert on the University's career architecture project.
  • Support HR and business leaders in developing new compensation programs and initiatives.
  • Assist with implementing and communicating compensation policies.
  • Partner with HR teams to ensure smooth execution of annual salary planning.
  • Assist Labor Relations with projects as needed.
  • Act as a resource for managers and HR staff on compensation-related inquiries.
  • Provide guidance on pay decisions, promotions, and adjustments to support equity.
  • Conduct informational sessions and training on compensation topics as needed.
Desired Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree.
  • Four to six years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in higher education is strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with colleagues at all levels with a customer-focused mindset.
  • Experience with high-volume compensation action and position management reviews.
  • Certification in Compensation, such as Certified Compensation Professional or equivalent, is preferred.
  • Experience with Workday and MarketPay.
