  • A bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, architecture, construction management, or a related field from an accredited institution of higher education.
  • At least five years of experience managing research facility projects, including wet and dry laboratories, vivariums, core instrumentation suites, and nano or cleanroom spaces.
  • Experience with specialized systems for research facilities, including heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, cleanroom controls, biosafety containment, and redundancy systems.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and managing stakeholder expectations in highly regulated research environments.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary liaison among design consultants, contractors, principal investigators, Environmental Health and Safety, and campus stakeholders.
  • Communicate program requirements for laboratories, core facilities, vivariums and animal-care spaces, nano and cleanroom spaces, including ventilation rates, pressurization, air changes per hour, temperature and humidity ranges, filtration, hood counts, shielding, and cleanroom classifications, with stakeholders to ensure functionality, safety, and sustainability goals.
  • Review drawings and specifications for constructability, compliance with research requirements, and life-cycle performance.
  • Lead coordination of value engineering and risk mitigation.
  • Manage scope, schedule, budget, contracts, change orders, pay applications, warranty, and project closeout while upholding documentation and audit readiness.
  • Coordinate infrastructure systems required to support high-performance research facilities.
  • Coordinate long-lead specialty equipment and enforce quality, safety, and infection or biosecurity controls while managing phasing in active buildings.
  • Coordinate commissioning and performance verification of specialized systems, including heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, fume hoods, biosafety cabinets, cleanroom controls, radiation shielding, specialty utilities, redundancy, and emergency power.
  • Coordinate user training, standard operating procedure integrations, and operations and maintenance documentation; confirm regulatory readiness and handoff.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Master of Science degree in Construction Management or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution of higher education.
  • Project Management Professional certification.
  • Experience with complex building systems commissioning and construction delivery methods, including Construction Manager at Risk and Job Order Contracting.
  • Knowledge of the complexity and compliance rigor needed for high-performance research environments.
  • Familiarity with construction codes and standards, including the International Building Code, National Fire Protection Association standards, and American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers standards, as well as research facility compliance requirements.
  • Knowledge of data protection expectations for research infrastructure, including Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification domains when applicable.
  • Proficiency in construction documentation tools, including Bluebeam, Procore, and Building Information Modeling platforms.
  • Understanding of commissioning processes for specialized systems, including heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, cleanrooms, and biosafety containment.
