Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • At least one year of coaching experience is required.
  • National Federation of State High School Associations Fundamentals of Coaching Certification is required.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required to relate effectively with students, coaches, staff, physicians, parents, teachers, and administrators.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple assignments and priorities simultaneously are required.
  • Previous coaching experience is required.
  • The ability to work flexible hours, including frequent evenings and weekends, is required.
  • The ability to perform physical activities including walking, standing, running, bending, crouching, reaching, lifting, and carrying is required.
Responsibilities
  • Coordinate or assist with coordinating the athletic sports program.
  • Coach and instruct students, teach individual and team skills, and develop and evaluate athlete and team performance and progress.
  • Organize and supervise safe and efficient practices and games, use coaching staff effectively, and prepare the team for competitions.
  • Serve as an ethical and professional role model who respects, motivates, and inspires athletes.
  • Develop team concepts within the organization's values-driven framework and promote sportsmanship and respect for game rules and officials.
  • Address athletes' individual needs and help them reach their full potential in an enjoyable environment.
  • Resolve disciplinary issues appropriately and effectively.
  • Ensure student-athlete medical and academic eligibility and complete grade checks, student-athlete records, timesheets, and human resources requirements.
  • Assist equipment and locker room personnel, help with sport planning and budgeting, and inventory equipment and uniforms.
  • Communicate with athletes, parents, faculty, administrators, coaches, and the community, and provide information to the school and media in a timely manner.
  • Promote the program in local and state communities.
Desired Qualifications
  • Participation in high school or collegiate athletics is preferred.
  • High school or collegiate coaching experience is preferred.
  • Sensitivity to Hawaiian culture and Christian values is preferred.
