Requirements
  • You will be an infrastructure engineer who codes and owns projects end-to-end with minimal oversight in a small but mighty infrastructure team.
  • Experience building and scaling infrastructure at a somewhat later stage company with millions of data points and automated provisioning, monitoring, and release processes.
  • Ability to evaluate risk and balance reliability with flexibility; comfortable with on-call responsibilities in a cloud-based environment (AWS).
  • Proficiency in designing and implementing guardrails for security and privacy of customer data, and in enabling secure data practices.
  • Willingness to contribute to developer tooling and to work on core parts of the Ashby developer and user experience.
  • Ability to define, monitor, and improve service level objectives (SLOs) and service level indicators (SLIs); implement retries and circuit breakers for external service communication.
  • Comfort with building infrastructure to support an event-driven architecture and a data warehouse; experience with data pipelines is a plus.
  • Proficiency with or openness to the technology stack mentioned (TypeScript, Node.js, React, Apollo GraphQL, Postgres, Redis) though not required; on-call culture and cloud-based operations are emphasized.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work in an asynchronous culture; ability to share tooling and best practices with engineers promptly.
  • Interest and willingness to work in a role that combines Platform Engineering and Site Reliability Engineering functions.
  • SQL proficiency is valued; willingness to work with data modeling and performance considerations.
Responsibilities
  • Optimize the homegrown dynamic recruiting DSL-to-SQL compiler and create tools to support developers in this task.
  • Create automated guardrails for the security and privacy of customer data.
  • Assist developers in shipping features quickly through canary deployments, gradual rollouts, and feature flags while keeping system complexity manageable and minimizing downtime.
  • Work with the business and engineering teams to define SLOs and implement corresponding SLIs.
  • Ensure all communication with external services supports retries and circuit breakers.
  • Implement infrastructure to support an event-driven architecture and a data warehouse.
  • Own projects end-to-end and review and contribute to code changes; participate in on-call and incident response as part of the follow-the-sun model.

  • Ability to own and ship a paved road for Ashby with minimal external direction; strong sense of technical ownership and decision-making.
  • Comfort with working on a broad set of responsibilities including infrastructure updates, security enforcement, database optimization, Kubernetes debugging, and debugging TypeScript traces.
  • Strong preference for engineers who enjoy working in an asynchronous culture and who can share new tooling and best practices quickly with the team.
  • Proficiency with or openness to the technology stack including TypeScript (frontend and backend), Node.js, React, Apollo GraphQL, Postgres, Redis; experience with Datadog, Sentry, AWS-based infrastructure is a plus.
  • SQL proficiency and capability to model and optimize data-intensive features; willingness to dive into data concerns when needed.
