Requirements
  • M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Geochemistry, Hydrogeology, Environmental Engineering, or related field
  • 20+ years of applied geochemistry experience, with a strong focus on the mining sector
  • Proven expertise in acid-base accounting, ARD/AMD prediction and management
  • Proven expertise in mine water geochemistry and modeling (PHREEQC, AquaChem, GoldSIM, Geochemist’s Workbench)
  • Proven expertise in groundwater evolution and isotope applications
  • Proven expertise in environmental impact assessment and closure planning
  • Strong working knowledge of Canadian environmental and mining regulatory frameworks
  • Eligible for professional registration (e.g., PGO, APEGA, EGBC); multi-provincial registration is a plus
  • Excellent leadership, mentorship, and communication skills
  • Ability to manage clients, deliver quality work, and grow internal capacity
  • Expert witness experience in mining or contaminated site matters
  • Experience in integrating geochemistry with hydrogeological or geomechanical models
  • Familiarity with data tools such as EQuIS, Excel macros, Access databases, or GIS platforms
Responsibilities
  • Lead geochemical programs for major mining projects, from exploration to closure
  • Design and oversee acid rock drainage (ARD), metal leaching (ML), and AMD prediction and control programs
  • Apply advanced isotopic and geochemical methods for source delineation (e.g., brine, salinity, petroleum)
  • Develop and refine conceptual hydrogeochemical models for mine water and impacted systems
  • Integrate geochemical and hydrogeological data to assess contaminant mobility and risk
  • Guide closure planning, decommissioning strategies, and environmental mitigation
  • Serve as a senior technical advisor to clients and internal teams on mining-related water quality challenges
  • Review and contribute to high-quality technical reporting and regulatory documentation
  • Support permitting, compliance, and stakeholder engagement processes
  • Contribute toward technical innovation, including identifying opportunities to improve technical execution with respect to the geochemistry discipline
  • Support Montrose Practice Leads and Technical Leads to review/improve/implement technical standards related to the geochemistry discipline
  • Lead, develop and inspire junior and intermediate geoscientists
  • Support strategic planning and business development initiatives to grow Montrose’s mining, green technologies and oil and gas projects
  • Develop strong internal and external networks to support the awareness of geochemistry within Montrose and externally to our clients
  • Support and preparing technical proposals, including development of technical scopes and cost estimates for geochemistry programs
  • Participate in business development with existing and new clients, and maintain client relationships to support repeat business
  • Create and reinforce a strong health and safety culture through visible leadership to project team members and clients
  • Provide advice to internal and external clients related to application of chemical and isotopic analytical strategies in groundwater and groundwater/surface water interactions for successful project outcomes
  • Develop conceptual hydrogeochemical models to support interpretation and performing modelling of chemical data, and integration with other groundwater studies, including hydrogeological modelling
  • Support mine site closure plans and industrial decommissioning strategies
  • Provide senior technical input, advice and review for multi-disciplinary projects related to geochemistry, hydrogeology, hydrology, chemistry, and mine water
  • Complete hydrogeochemical investigations of local and regional scale groundwater systems for environmental assessment and remediation, and natural resource/infrastructure development
  • Assessing future environmental impacts and developing mitigation strategies for proposed industrial development, including mine site development
  • Act as an expert witness for regulatory and legal proceedings

Montrose beats revenue estimates with 2.5% margin and 13% organic growth in Q4

Montrose, a provider of air quality monitoring and environmental consulting services, reported Q4 revenues of $193.3 million, up 2.2% year-on-year and exceeding analysts' expectations by 2.5%. The company beat estimates for earnings per share and adjusted operating income. For full-year 2025, Montrose delivered 13% organic revenue growth, expanded EBITDA margins and achieved 75% free cash flow conversion. Year-end leverage came in approximately 0.5 times lower than forecast. CEO Vijay Manthripragada said the company outperformed every major objective despite regulatory volatility. Across the waste management sector, the eight stocks tracked reported mixed Q4 results, with revenues in line with consensus estimates. Share prices have declined 7.6% on average since earnings. Montrose stock is down 4.1% since reporting, currently trading at $22.42.

Montrose Environmental Group reported a fourth-quarter loss of $8.2 million, or 23 cents per share. However, adjusted earnings of 35 cents per share surpassed Wall Street expectations of 24 cents per share. The North Little Rock, Arkansas-based company posted revenue of $193.3 million for the quarter, exceeding analyst forecasts of $185.8 million. For the full year, Montrose reported a loss of $843,000, or 14 cents per share, on revenue of $830.5 million. The company expects full-year revenue between $840 million and $900 million. The earnings report was generated using data from Zacks Investment Research.

US stocks rally as Trump announces Greenland deal framework, tariff threat eases

Several US stocks surged in afternoon trading after the president announced a framework for a future deal with Greenland, reversing earlier plans to impose tariffs linked to the territory. The S&P 500 gained 1.2% as concerns over global trade tensions eased. Defence contractor CACI rose 4.4%, whilst renewable energy company SolarEdge jumped 4.6%. New chief for Montrose Environmental Group. Montrose Environmental Group has appointed James Laws as its new Chief Operating Officer. Laws brings nearly a decade of experience in environmental remediation, air quality, environmental health and safety and permitting and planning to the role. He will oversee all business line operations across the company and deepen organisational efficiency. Montrose Environmental Group and its subsidiary EC2 have worked extensively on groundwater contamination projects throughout Australia, including PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) removal. Montrose Environmental Group has appointed James Laws as chief operating officer. In this role, Laws will oversee all business line operations and report directly to CEO Vijay Manthripragada. Laws brings 25 years of experience in the environmental industry. He spent nearly a decade at AECOM, most recently as senior vice president responsible for environmental remediation, air quality, health and safety, and federal programmes. Earlier, he spent 16 years at CH2M HILL leading environmental programmes for the Environmental Protection Agency and Department of Defense. Montrose operates approximately 120 locations worldwide with around 3,500 employees, providing environmental solutions including air measurement, laboratory services, regulatory compliance, and remediation services.
