ABOUT BIOACTIVES
Bioactives are small molecule compounds produced by plants, fungi, and microbes that grow in and adapt to environments that present a wide range of challenges to their survival. Bioactives also benefit the health of humans – they are the enlivening caffeine in tea, the powerful antioxidant lycopene in tomatoes or curcumin in turmeric, and they inform active ingredients in medicines like Taxol, aspirin and Metformin, the latter a first-line treatment for Type 2 diabetes derived from the French lilac flower. Science has long known that bioactives are critical to human health, yet the vast majority remain unknown and uncharted – often referred to as the “dark matter” of nutrition. Brightseed’s A.I., Forager®, discovers bioactives in nature and maps them to human health outcomes at a rate and accuracy that was previously impossible.
ABOUT THE TEAM
Our Business Development team creates strategic partnerships that use Forager’s® capabilities to develop solutions for unmet needs across health, supplement, ingredient, food and beverage global companies, and manage these partnerships for mutual long-term success.
Business Development is responsible for hitting revenue targets by closing new strategic partnership deals, as well as identifying and defining new paths to monetize Brightseed’s powerful technology innovations.
ABOUT YOU
You have a broad interest in bridging the worlds of science, technology and business and you have business development experience in supplements, skincare, over-the-counter medicine, CPG, ingredients and/or agribusiness. You are goal oriented and a team-first individual with a successful track record leading strategic initiatives and transactions from development through successful execution with internal and external teams to define the opportunity, negotiate mutually beneficial terms, build consensus, and ensure long-term success of programs. This passion and strength will help us cultivate joint development agreements (JDA’s) with our partners for success and longevity. You have high competency in translating our scientific capabilities into commercial opportunities, with strong interpersonal communication and presentation skills to represent Brightseed’s value. You’re an operational leader, with the ability to both lead and to execute in a fast-paced lean start-up environment.
YOUR IMPACT
- Lead joint-development agreement (JDA) partnership deals from inception to long-term commercial success with industry leaders.
Generate new business
- Identify the potential partners and players that are a good fit for Brightseed’s capabilities.
- Effectively and persuasively communicate Brightseed’s capabilities to potential partners to win new business.
- Work extensively with potential partners to scope engagements: identify key areas of importance, project deliverables and pricing, and key business terms for new programs, including creation and use of IP. Develop custom content as necessary.
- Frame and negotiate term sheets and contracts for new and existing partners.
Ensure program success
- Coordinate internal resources, capabilities and team to bring the best data, insights and information to prospective partners to optimize deal outcomes, while ensuring organization of partner logistics and information tracking.
- Work with our internal Brightseed team and external stakeholders to identify, address and resolve any issues related to collaboration activities to keep the programs progressing and timelines on track.
- Leverage your prior experience and Brightseed resources to develop creative solutions to prospective partners’ business challenges using the Forager platform.
Expand the business
- Grow the value of Brightseed’s partnerships by expanding services and technologies that address key needs.
- Work closely with the broader BD team to build business cases for new product / service offerings.
YOUR QUALIFICATIONS
- 10+ years relevant professional experience; minimum of 5 years in business development or external innovation ideally in the consumer health, dietary supplements, over-the-counter medicine, specialized nutrition industries
- Track record of originating, closing and delivering on deals
- Experience working closely with research functions, with demonstrable ability to translate scientific data and results into relevant commercial insights
- Track record of scoping and structuring deals
- MBA or other technical advanced degree a plus
COMPENSATION
- The salary range for this position is $219,000 - $250,000.
- Compensation for this position is commensurate with relevant qualifications and work experience, academic credentials, job related skills, employment location and other factors.
