Position Overview:
Solid Power is seeking a Battery Engineer Intern to join our talented team of engineers and scientists working to revolutionize the battery industry through the development of next-generation, all solid‐state rechargeable batteries. Solid Power is a dynamic, fast‐paced, collaborative, and innovative team environment. The preferred candidate is currently enrolled in undergraduate or graduate studies focused on engineering, chemistry, or related fields.
Job Duties:
- Able to support battery cell design & development efforts for 15-20 hours a week.
- Build small-scale battery cells and conduct electrochemical tests.
- Process and analyze battery cell test data and summarize results.
- Provide biweekly updates to the Cell Design team.
- Support post-mortem analysis of solid-state batteries.
- Work closely, collaboratively, and effectively with other departments and team members.
- Always follow facility and laboratory safety rules and regulations.
Qualifications/ Requirements:
- Strong technical communication skills and facility for communicating complex ideas to diverse audiences.
- Experience with electrochemical impedance spectroscopy of LIBs preferred.
- Experience with spectroscopic, microscopic, thermal, and mechanical analysis such as SEM, Tensile Testing, and XRD preferred.
- Experience in the use of statistical design (D.O.E.) with relevant software experience (Minitab, JMP, Concerto, etc.) preferred.
- Knowledge of Li-ion battery cell materials, operation, performance, and failure modes preferred.
- Ability to work at least 4-hour shifts is preferred.
Education and Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years completed into bachelor’s degree in materials science, mechanical engineering, chemistry, or like field and currently enrolled.
- Experience with battery science and data analysis is a plus.
Physical Requirements (with or without accommodation):
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk.
- Prolonged periods of standing.
- Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as necessary including, but not limited to eye protection, hair net, gloves, face mask, coveralls, full-face respirator or PAPR.
- Ability to work in gloveboxes and dry rooms.
Hourly Compensation: $22-$25/hour
Schedule: 15-20 hours per week during 2025 spring term
