Requirements
  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse in good standing with the state of Michigan.
  • For South Haven: BSN is required upon hire.
  • If hired before December 1, 2019, must have an active nursing license and 3-5 years of progressively more responsible experience in the hospital or elsewhere.
  • Basic Life Support certification required upon hire.
  • Advanced Life Support (Adult and/ or Pediatric) within 6 months of hire.
  • Hospital Incident Command courses IS-100.HCb, IS-200HCb, IS-200.HCa and IS-700.a, and NIH Stroke certification to be completed within 6 months of hire.
Responsibilities
  • Coordinates and oversees hospital operations. Provides administrative direction.
  • Resolves crises and conflicts. Provides analysis, assessment and intervention for problems requiring immediate attention. Informs department managers and directors of problems and resolutions.
  • Investigates problems and complaints from patients, visitors, physicians and staff. Implements appropriate action and follow up.
  • Initial contact person for atypical events. Conducts initial assessment of event. Initiates appropriate action, ensuring stabilization of patient. Ensures notification of risk management, CSI and department manager and director.
  • Continually assesses hospital environment for safety concerns including patients, families, visitors and staff. Takes action as appropriate.
  • Attends all Safety Check-In Meetings Monday – Friday. Leads Safety Check-In Meetings on weekends and holidays.
  • Coordinates placement of all admissions and transfers. Communicates with Bronson First to coordinate all regional transfers.
  • Collaborates with physicians and Rapid Response to ensure optimal patient placement.
  • Monitors hospital capacity. Manages throughput to avoid delays in patient placement. Implements hospital surge plan as needed. Provides hospital wide communication regarding level of occupancy. Collaborates with ER physicians and ER charge nurse when hospital is at capacity.
  • Leads 0400/1600 Bed Planning Meetings. Works with staffing office to ensure appropriate placement of available staff. Assigns or reassigns staff as appropriate to maintain safe, competent levels of care in all areas, including placement of sitters.
  • Coordinates communication with outside organizations or their representatives, including other health care facilities, law enforcement agencies and the media. Relays appropriate information according to established policies. Involves public relations in all media calls.
  • Manages the initial response in the event of a disaster, crisis or emergency situation. Notifies incident commander. Coordinates all activities until incident commander arrives. Communicates with outside organizations or their representatives, including information regarding bed availability.
  • Ensures compliance with established policies and procedures, including Substance Abuse Policy. Ensures appropriate testing when reasonable suspicion for abuse exists.
  • Answers all calls for Employee Incident Hotline after hours, on weekends and holidays. Provides initial triage and directs employee to ER as appropriate. Documents all calls on the Employee Injury & Illness Incident Report.
  • Collaborates with ER physician to initiate prophylactic treatment of employees in the event of exposure to communicable diseases.
  • Identifies bed bugs in conjunction with EVS manager or designee. Coordinates notification of EVS management, facilities and Griffin Pest Control. Ensures room is properly sealed post discharge.
  • Conducts regular rounds on all hospital departments and units. Monitors unit activity, level of patient care and assists with problem resolution. Acts as mentor to staff and advocate to patients.
  • Oversees availability of supplies and equipment necessary for patient care. Provides direction during shortages. Provides direction during computer and monitoring downtime.
  • For Bronson Lakeview Hospital and Bronson South Haven Hospital: The House Manager is responsible for completing the Word day CBL –“Swing beds”. This is an annual CBL that describes the difference in a swing bed patient versus an in-patient or observation patient. The House Manager will understand the documentation differences and the specific care required for each individual swing bed patient.
Desired Qualifications
  • Overall knowledge of disaster planning and certification in IS courses highly preferred.
