Trane reported a record backlog of $12.1 billion in second-quarter 2026 earnings, up 70% year over year, with a book-to-bill ratio of 135%. Carrier's backlog reached $8 billion, increasing 40% annually and 20% sequentially. The company's data centre orders jumped 300% year over year, whilst commercial orders rose 65%. High-power AI chips generate substantial heat, making cooling critical infrastructure. US electricity demand is expected to rise 60% between 2025 and 2045, partly due to AI. The duo claim the reference design is the first of its kind, and that using it to design systems for AI data centers can lead to energy efficiency gains of 15 percent and cut copper use by up to 80 percent. Installation is also cheaper than conventional low-voltage design processes, the companies added. The new reference design is included in both the Trane Continuum Rubin DSX and Eaton Beam Rubin DSX platforms, which are designed to be compatible with Nvidia's DSX platforms for building AI data centers. "AI and high-performance computing are transforming the demands placed on data centers, and customers want solutions that can keep pace with their needs," said Mauro J.
