Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited school of Practical Nursing.
  • Currently registered in New York State as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).
  • Demonstrated competency in performing venipuncture for collection of blood specimens.
  • Ability to communicate accurately with patients, staff, and medical providers.
  • Ability to constantly move about the office to assist patients, staff, and medical providers.
Responsibilities
  • Accurately collect clinical data on patients, perform clinical interventions, and report abnormalities to the medical provider.
  • Triage patient phone calls and troubleshoot medication management issues.
  • Document nursing observations, interventions, and patient responses to treatment in patient records.
  • Perform venipuncture and administer shots for blood specimen collection, and facilitate prompt and accurate processing and distribution of collected specimens.
  • Ensure patients receive timely and appropriate care and facilitate internal and external referrals in collaboration with the Registered Nurse.
  • Perform and record vital signs, weight, height, and point-of-service blood glucose testing, and report abnormalities to the medical provider or Registered Nurse on duty.
  • Collect routine urine specimens and specimens for culture and sensitivity using appropriate techniques.
  • Instruct patients on clean-catch specimen collection.
  • Follow venipuncture techniques and agency procedures when obtaining blood specimens.
  • Follow Occupational Safety and Health Administration standards for bloodborne pathogens when handling blood and body fluids.
  • Maintain standard precautions during patient care.
  • Maintain and monitor treatment-center inventory and replenish exam-room supplies.
  • Prepare and process routine supply requisitions according to agency procedures.
  • Monitor equipment integrity and report malfunctioning, missing, or damaged equipment to the Registered Nurse or Office Manager.
  • Answer phones, register patients, make appointments, enter and retrieve computer data, and retrieve reports.
  • Copy, prepare, store, and maintain records.
  • Track laboratory work sent, file laboratory reports in client records, and prepare and process laboratory and diagnostic requisitions.
  • Follow policies and regulations governing patient rights and confidentiality of information.
  • Follow the patient-flow protocol from reception through registration, laboratory services, and escort to the provider.
  • Perform other related duties assigned by management.

  • Three years of experience as a Licensed Practical Nurse in an ambulatory care setting.
