The Recruitment Officer – Student Conversion and Transition is a fully trained Recruitment Officer, representing Brock at external school visits and events. This position is particularly focused on delivering an exceptional campus experience through Smart Start, Brock’s summer orientation program for incoming Year One students.
Reporting to the Manager, National Recruitment, the successful candidate represents Brock among prospective students and influencers, and plans, implements, and evaluates all aspects of conversion initiatives and Smart Start programming. At the heart of Smart Start is an exemplary team of student ambassadors leading daily programming. The successful candidate is responsible for hiring, training, scheduling, supervising, and evaluating a team of student staff annually to deliver the Smart Start program.
TheRecruitment Officer- Student Conversion and Transitionwill:
Plan and implement the Smart Start program, Brock’s summer applicant retention and transition program for approximately 2,000 incoming Year One Students;
Develop customized programming to be offered in-person and/or online, which support the smooth transition of incoming students, family, and supporters. Customized programming includes tailored offerings for college/university transfer students, mature students, First Generation students, Indigenous students, and International students;
Recruit, hire, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate a team of Smart Start student staff annually;
Develop training modules and coordinate interactive training sessions for all academic programs and student services;
Liaise with on-campus partners to coordinate their involvement in the Smart Start program (e.g. Faculty presenters, Food Services, Scheduling, Academic Advising, and student service units);
Supervise the staffing, set-up, and service delivery of the Smart Start. Stay Smart. AskMe Booths;
Master a wide array of Brock content related to all academic programs and student services;
Engage in travel to represent Brock at external events, fairs, and individual school visits, providing information and performing presentations as required;
Participate fully in key recruitment events such as the Ontario Universities’ Far, Fall Preview Day, March Break programming, Open House, weekend tours, and other events as needed; and
Initiate and execute tactics designed to motivate applicants to confirm their offer of admission from Brock.
Key Skills and Experience:
Valid Ontario G class driver’s license with an acceptable driver’s abstract.
A minimum of one year of supervisor, customer service, sales and/or marketing experience, including demonstrated success inspiring and coaching students/youth to deliver a message accurately and persuasively.
Ability to master vast quantity of program and service knowledge related to the Brock student experience;
Knowledge of conversion and retention strategies, program planning, project management, and implementation;
Demonstrated supervisory and coaching skills, particularly among youth/student staff and volunteers;
Polished presentation skills, with the ability to convey information effectively to large and small groups;
Exceptional sales and persuasion skills, with the ability to tailor messaging to diverse and distinct groups;
Proven ability to build and maintain strong professional relationships at all levels of the University and with external groups and individuals;
Skilled in addressing inquiries from prospective students and applicants, counsellors, parents, agents, regarding the status of an application or decision, while upholding confidentiality, privacy requirements, and cultural sensitivity;
Strong technical/multimedia skills, including knowledge of Office365 and social media platforms;
Ability to think critically, analyze, and reason soundly in a fast-paced competitive environment;
Excellent organizational, time management, communication, and administrative skills; and
Comfortable travelling extensively.
Preferred or Asset Skills:
Graduate of Brock University;
Knowledge of Brock’s campus as well as the PSE landscape in Ontario;
Previous experience in a college or university recruitment environment;
Youth and/or volunteer management experience;
Mental Health certification or training;
Experience with business travel; and
Experience with large-scale community events.
Salary and Total Rewards:
Job Grade K, Salary Scale ($61,286- $99,384);
Target Hiring Range: $61,286 - $65,000*
