Requirements
- A Bachelor of Science in Nursing is required.
- Three to five years of progressively more responsible experience in the health care field is required.
- A master's degree with a focus in Informatics or Nursing is preferred.
- Certification in a specialty is strongly preferred and must be in good standing and valid in the state of Michigan.
- Working knowledge of nursing standards and data analyses is required.
- Advanced word processing and spreadsheet skills, including Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel, are required.
- Detailed understanding of nursing electronic documentation and clinical processes is required.
- The ability to communicate clearly and professionally in writing and verbally is required.
- The ability to interact with executives, leaders, staff, and physicians at all levels of the health care environment is required.
- The ability to negotiate agreement and acceptance of change in complex and difficult situations is required.
- Employees providing direct patient care must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served.
Responsibilities
- Sustain organizational adherence to Epic and the requirements for clinical documentation.
- Evaluate compliance, identify gaps and areas for improvement, and lead teams in identifying process changes.
- Coordinate implementation and maintenance of designated clinical informatics projects.
- Lead and coordinate upgrade implementation and documentation optimization for clinical services, including Nursing and Respiratory Therapy.
- Collaborate with and assist clinical caregivers at all levels in conducting performance improvement activities and maintaining a bedside-driven nursing leadership practice environment.
- Serve as a liaison for Medical Informatics with clinical staff.
- Serve as a liaison between Information Technology and clinical staff.
- Work collaboratively with nursing staff and leadership, physicians, and executives.
- Ensure clinical staff competency in using clinical applications.
- Assist in evaluating the quality and appropriateness of care.
- Serve as a resource to staff, management, and physicians regarding Nursing Informatics.
- Serve as the Nursing Administrative liaison to Information Technology to coordinate services and optimize documentation accuracy.
- Promote optimum use of available technology and applications.
- Evaluate and recommend technology uses to improve patient safety, optimize professional clinical practice, and support departmental goals.
- Supervise Clinical Informatics.
- Work closely with hospital Performance Improvement to develop appropriate metrics and use databases.
- Ensure the accuracy of data and reports.
- Work collaboratively with Organizational Improvement and Performance Improvement to ensure accreditation and regulatory compliance.
- Provide input into policies and procedures to integrate evidence-based practices and documentation processes.
- Communicate professionally and diplomatically across the chain of command to support shared knowledge, a common vision, and quality improvements.
- Coordinate and lead multidisciplinary teams as assigned to accomplish established goals.
- Participate in assigned committees as a nursing and Respiratory Therapy representative and liaison.
- Chair the System Nursing Informatics Committee and participate on the Medical Informatics Committee as assigned.
- Participate in the leadership development and testing of application functions.
- Coordinate and participate in upgrades and conversions.
- Participate in developing and implementing policies and procedures to ensure documentation compliance.
- Identify educational needs and collaborate with Nursing Education to provide necessary education.
- Coordinate the clinical informatics team to provide at-the-elbow support for clinical teams as identified.
