Responsibilities
  • Utilize law enforcement networks and databases to gather and continuously maintain evidentiary materials in criminal cases and prepare materials for dissemination to defense attorneys through the discovery process.
  • Conduct evidence and document collection on individual cases based on set priority deadlines.
  • Act as the primary contact for identifying, gathering, and collecting information for the Office of the District Attorney, Office of the County Attorney, and Nassau County Police Department.
  • Act as liaison to police departments, crime labs, and related law enforcement entities that may have relevant information for criminal cases.
  • Ascertain the existence of potential discovery materials not within the prosecution's possession, custody, or control.
  • Review progress and take appropriate action through telephone calls, emails, and messengers to ensure prompt response and receipt of requested materials.
  • Bring noncompliance matters requiring possible subpoenas and matters involving potentially exculpatory or credibility-related materials to the attention of the District Attorney, County Attorney, or department administrator.
  • Convert physical documents to digital formats where applicable, import and export materials from internal databases, maintain and organize materials, change file types, and subdivide large documents into smaller files.
  • Provide defendants with necessary discovery materials within the allowable timeframe.
  • Redact private or personal information from discovery materials under direct supervision.
  • Follow established checklists and prepare automatic discovery forms for completion by attorneys or department administrators.
