In the Special Hematology Laboratory performs high complexity, non-automated testing; documents Quality Control (QC), Quality Improvement (QI), and Preventive Maintenance. Performs computer functions utilizing the Laboratory Information System (LIS) and instrument software programs; assists in test development and implementation; ensures accuracy of lab data; performs miscellaneous duties as requested and participates in the training of healthcare practitioners.

Job Description
Receives orders, gathers specimens and results testing through the Laboratory Information Systems.
Operates automated analyzers, centrifuges, microscopes and any other laboratory equipment as required by the department.
Records all documentation per policy and procedures.
Troubleshoots instrumentation when needed, corrects problems when appropriate and alerts supervisor or charge person of situation and documents equipment failure sheet.Prints tech logs, reviews work performed, signs logs and gives to supervisor or charge person for review.
Responsible for screening and drawing blood donors according to policy.
Reviews all donor cards and donor records for accuracy.
Prepares donor samples for submission to special chemistry and serology for testing, checking for labeling accuracy.
Records results from tests in Laboratory Information System and /or work cards, log books and patient request forms.
Responsible for technical supervision for interpreting and enforcing laboratory policies and procedures to laboratory personnel assigned to the section.
Collects blood specimens ordered with a minimum of twp sticks. Labels each with tech code and collection time, including proper identification of patient.
Receives and results orders through Laboratory Information System and gathers appropriate specimens for analysis. Processing of these specimens may include printing worksheets and/or labeling sample cups with proper accession numbers as required.
Prints all pending logs and/or HRP Logs and checks to see if patients listed have been received, resulted, duplicated or discharged and handles appropriately according to policy.
Performs and documents quality control per policy and procedures.
Performs other miscellaneous and related duties as required
Additional Job Description
An associate degree in clinical laboratory technology and certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or National Certifying Agency (NCA) and three years relevant experience.
