Requirements
  • Master’s Degree in Psychology, Educational Psychology or a related field; two years of professional experience providing counseling; experience administering Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2, Inwald Personality Inventory, California Psychological Inventory, Inwald Survey 5R, and Wunderlic Personnel Test preferred; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
  • Must possess State of Georgia Board of Professional Counselors license to practice as a Professional Counselor.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license.
Responsibilities
  • Administers direct patient care by providing psychotherapy to department employees; evaluates problems and diagnoses issues; and recommends individualized treatment modalities.
  • Assesses patients to detect mental health concerns to recommend interventions when necessary; and conducts workplace violence threat assessments as directed.
  • Plans counseling and treatment programs in accordance with departmental policies and procedures; provides on-site and follow-up counseling sessions in response to a variety of patient needs; selects, administers, and interprets various psychological test instruments for the diagnosis and evauation of mentally or emotionally disturbed or maladjusted patients.
  • Serves in an emergency 24-hour on-call capacity for crisis intervention services and may respond in the field as part of the Crisis Incident Stress Debriefing Team; provides immediate professional counseling services; consults with or assists personnel as needed; debriefs personnel involved in on/off duty shootings, serious crime situations, traumatic incidents; and provides group debriefings following exposure to major critical incidents.
  • Provides operational consultations regarding case-specific behavioral analyses; develops health interventions; and conducts research and statistical analyses.
  • Consults with department on organizational and operational matters including work-group dynamics and cohesiveness, productivity, team building, leadership development, executive coaching, and morale issues; and applies sound organizational principles to design and implement organizational interventions.
  • Prepares lesson plans and teaches a variety of subjects to department personnel related to psychological, physical, and physiological health; and develops health promotion materials on various psychological, physiological and social issues i.e, suicide prevention, resiliency, responsible drinking, pain management, leadership development, emotional intelligence, performance, and disease prevention.
  • Researches topics and presents comprehensive training programs, workshops, and lectures on a variety of topics to department staff, including supervisors, management, and training officers.
  • Conducts psychological research, initiates studies, and provides research data to implement departmental programs; and collaborates on multi-disciplinary investigations.
