Requirements
- Graduate of a Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education accredited nursing program with a Master's Degree in Nursing for the nurse practitioner pathway.
- Hold national certification from a recognized Advanced Practice Registered Nurse certification center for the nurse practitioner pathway.
- Hold or be eligible for licensure as a professional Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in Pennsylvania for the nurse practitioner pathway.
- Hold American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification, with additional Advanced Life Support training at the department's discretion.
- Have at least three years of experience in Hospitalist Medicine or as an Advanced Practice Professional, at the department's discretion, for either pathway.
- Hold a Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree as a Physician Assistant for the physician assistant pathway.
- Graduate from an Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant-approved Physician Assistant training program.
- Hold certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
- Hold or be eligible for licensure by the Pennsylvania Board of Medicine for the physician assistant pathway.
- Perform work requiring lifting, moving, stooping, reaching, positioning patients, standing, walking, and carrying patients, materials, and equipment weighing 40 or more pounds.
- Work closely with others and accommodate protracted or irregular hours.
- Work around biohazards, infectious diseases, deceased persons, and electrical hazards associated with patient care equipment.
- Possess proficiency with computers.
- Travel to regional sites as needed.
- Possess strong communication skills.
Responsibilities
- Manage hospitalist inpatient Advanced Practice Professional personnel to ensure an appropriately credentialed, clinically competent, and cohesive workforce, while maintaining adherence to local policies.
- Promote cooperative problem solving, positive progressive discipline, individual and group goal orientation, appropriate delegation of section duties and activities, and team cohesion through coaching, counseling, meetings, and participation in section activities.
- Assist in developing and implementing educational programs for professional and support staff, including new employee orientation, continuing education, procedural training, and new equipment or systems training.
- Manage inpatient Advanced Practice Professionals to ensure adequate coverage in inpatient settings.
- Maintain effective communication with Medical Staff, patients, staff, and other departments to identify problems and support problem resolution.
- Communicate with Advanced Practice Professionals, physicians, nurses, and other personnel to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner.
- Work with the Hospitalist Medical Director to disseminate necessary information in writing or verbally.
- Work with leadership staff, Advanced Practice Professionals, and physicians to identify opportunities for improved efficiency and quality care delivery through the Performance Improvement process.
- Communicate employee concerns to appropriate personnel.
- Plan, organize, implement, and evaluate care delivery in accordance with Standards of Practice and Standards of Care.
- Collaborate with the Hospitalist Medical Director to ensure Advanced Practice Professional care is consistent with local and regional medical staff procedures.
- Facilitate personnel professional development and oversee and participate in staff orientation, training, and continuing education.
- Assist the Hospitalist Medical Director with hiring Advanced Practice Professional vacancies and evaluating new employees within the hospitalist section.
- Maintain personal and professional growth through workshops, seminars, in-services, and monitoring staff orientation plans.
- Identify current and future section and departmental educational needs and collaborate on an education plan, including process and outcome evaluation and staff participation.
- Improve and maintain personal management skills through seminars, workshops, classes, and literature review.
- Participate in research and quality initiatives.
- Perform other duties assigned by department or hospital leadership.
Desired Qualifications
- Advanced Certified Nurse Practitioners or Family Nurse Practitioners are preferred.
- A Master's Degree as a Physician Assistant is preferred.
