Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in science or engineering fields, or related and equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of experience in laboratory management, with 2+ of those years serving as laboratory manager; preferably in a biotech or pharmaceutical setting
  • 2+ years of Environmental Health & Safety program experience
  • Familiarity with GLP, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), regulatory requirements, and vendor management/negotiation
  • Familiarity with the regulations and interactions with various state and federal agencies including EPA, OSHA, DOT, MA DEP, MA DPH, MA DOL and others
  • Knowledge of laboratory equipment installation and onboarding
  • Excellent problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and laboratory information management systems (LIMS)
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds and stand for multiple hours at a time. Job requires the ability to bend and twist to maintain equipment and reach supplies
Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with research team to identify and address any operational workflow bottlenecks, inefficiencies, opportunities for process improvement, and logistical or administrative issues in the lab
  • Oversee lab safety and regulatory compliance, including tracking of biologics, chemicals, and hazardous materials, and enforcing PPE policy and lab safety rules
  • Establish and maintain lab processes and procedures including documentation, equipment calibrations, and annual laboratory cleanouts
  • Coordinate annual laboratory permits and license renewals
  • Anticipate, troubleshoot, and resolve problems associated with work within the laboratory setting, including occasional off-hours responses to laboratory emergencies
  • Lead all aspects of EHS corrective and preventative action program to ensure that identified improvements are followed to completion
  • Develop training programs to ensure employee understanding of EHS risks, the measures vital to protect from adverse events, and the safety regulations pertinent to the pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry
  • Conduct accident and incident investigations with the purpose of identifying root cause and corrective actions
