Requirements
  • Full licensure to practice dentistry in the State of Kansas.
  • Completion of an accredited pediatric practice residency program.
  • Board Certification in Pediatric Dentistry is preferred.
  • BLS certification is required.
  • PALS certification is required.
  • A valid driver's license is required because travel is a job requirement.
  • A strong community and public health orientation is preferred.
  • Commitment to serving underserved patients.
  • Social and cultural sensitivity appropriate to ethnically and economically diverse patients and employees.
  • Knowledge of the rationale for appropriate patient care.
  • Ability to handle emergency situations calmly and effectively.
  • Computer literacy and proficiency with the organization's electronic health record.
  • Ability to maintain good interpersonal relationships with coworkers and other members of the healthcare team and organization.
  • Ability to provide customer service in accordance with the organization's mission.
  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with organizational policy and procedure and HIPAA requirements.
Responsibilities
  • Provide complete, comprehensive outpatient care for dental and oral conditions, including oral examinations, treatment, and follow-up of detected problems.
  • Instruct assigned dental assistants.
  • Assist the Director of Dental Services and/or Chief Clinical Officer with competencies and clinical evaluation of clinical staff.
  • Make appropriate referrals to internal CHC/SEK disciplines and/or external resources or agencies for additional required services.
  • Prescribe medications for patients to treat conditions, as indicated.
  • Provide dental consultation to other providers within CHC/SEK as needed.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and clear medical record documentation.
  • Provide follow-up with dental support staff through telephone or written correspondence, including informing patients of test results.
  • Integrate patient education into all phases of treatment.
  • Participate in dental outreach activities as assigned.
  • Provide clear written and oral communication to patients, guardians, and employees.
  • Participate in an on-call system for after-hours care for established patients of the pediatric practice.
  • Evaluate the relative costs and benefits of potential actions.
  • Ensure that dental policies related to CHC/SEK services are current and accurate.
  • Perform other assigned duties.
  • Use the proper chain of command for patient complaints.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with organizational policy and procedure and HIPAA requirements.
  • Travel as required for the position.
