Requirements
- A bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, or equivalent is required.
- At least ten years of experience in the architecture, engineering, and construction industry is required.
- An industry-specific certification, including Project Management Professional, American Engineering and Construction Project Management Association, or Design-Build Institute of America certification, is required or expected.
- Demonstrated senior project management success managing a single large project or a portfolio of smaller projects is required.
- Advanced understanding of core engineering disciplines, project execution, and delivery in design and construction is required.
- Experience managing design processes and relationships between design and construction to ensure quality, budget-conscious, complete documents are delivered on schedule is required.
- Ability to lead and manage integrated teams including subcontractors is required.
- Understanding of integrated project delivery, including design, procurement, commissioning, qualification, validation, and construction processes, is required.
- Proficiency with typical software tools, including the Microsoft Suite, as well as safety and scheduling tools, is required.
- Leadership, communication, and organizational skills are required.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement project execution strategies and plans for effective and efficient delivery.
- Provide overall leadership and direction to project teams, owners, sponsors, stakeholders, business leaders, subcontractors, trade partners, and consultants.
- Manage end-to-end project delivery through chartering, safety, design, pre-construction, permitting, construction, document control, procurement, commissioning and qualification, automation, consulting, and warranty.
- Establish project culture, core values, standards of care, policies, procedures, management tools, systems, and best practices.
- Set and monitor key performance indicators for safety, pre-planning, execution, customer satisfaction, quality, schedule, and profitability.
- Coordinate with architecture and engineering teams to manage package flow, logistics, sequencing, phasing, design, and construction plans.
- Lead business case alignment, chartering, project execution plan development, preconstruction planning, constructability reviews, procurement, logistics planning, scope reviews, budgeting, and costing.
- Develop, manage, and maintain project schedules and timelines.
- Prepare, review, and approve monthly financial and schedule reports, costs, expense workflows, and financial forecasts.
- Track and negotiate project costs to ensure projects are successful and profitable.
- Ensure pre-mobilization activities, including project execution plans, building execution plans, site requirements, and permitting, are completed.
- Lead coordinated procurement planning with owners, trade partners, subcontractors, and enabling-work providers.
- Lead estimate development and facilities reviews while controlling scope creep.
- Review quality documents, field reports, logs, and project documentation for completeness, accuracy, and contract compliance.
- Participate in site safety walks and ensure appropriate safety tracking software is used.
- Develop project-specific quality management plans, monitor work sites, and address issues that fail to meet quality standards.
- Participate in internal and external pull-planning sessions.
- Build and maintain positive client relationships, manage client interactions, identify and resolve conflicts, and solicit client feedback.
- Negotiate and manage prime contracts, subcontracts, and vendor agreements.
- Identify business-development opportunities, participate in major pursuits, lead pursuit strategies, and prepare and present RFP responses.
- Maintain connections with site teams, ensure planned resources are available, and address project and team inefficiencies.
- Monitor team performance, coach teams, course-correct, and re-staff when necessary.
- Hold people accountable and review and issue performance improvement plans with Human Resources and senior leadership involvement.
- Mentor, coach, and train project team members and support their development goals.
- Support review cycles and provide constructive feedback on project staff performance.
- Identify hiring needs, recruit candidates, participate in interviews, contribute to offers, and support candidates through acceptance and onboarding.
