Requirements
  • BS degree in cell biology, pharmacology, biotechnology, biological engineering or a related discipline with 2-4 years of experience performing cell/tissue-based assays in a lab setting; or an MS degree in cell biology, pharmacology, biotechnology, biological engineering or a related discipline with 0-2 years of experience performing cell/tissue-based assays in a lab setting
  • Experience should include: microscopy, sterile tissue culture methods, recording and analyzing biological data
  • Exceptionally keen attention to detail.
  • Compliance-oriented, with high respect for the importance of standards, documentation and routine/repetition.
  • Must be a cross-functional team-player but also be able to work independently, i.e., able to achieve results as an individual AND achieve results with and through colleagues.
  • Must be able to take ownership of work tasks, i.e., able to follow through on tasks, identify and troubleshoot technical issues, seek clarity or assistance as needed.
  • Must be able to multi-task, prioritize, and handle multiple projects at once.
  • Must be flexible and able to quickly adapt to dynamic working conditions.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of core statistical concepts including hypothesis testing, simple linear regression, ANOVA, and checking appropriate assumptions prior to application of statistical tests (normality, constant variance, etc.)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint, GraphPad Prism
Responsibilities
  • Join a team of scientists and engineers advancing human tissue models of health and disease, including engineered cardiac and skeletal muscle tissue.
  • Support the advancement of human tissue models by generating high quality, reproducible tissues and maintaining the laboratory environment.
  • Perform laboratory-based tissue production activities with a high degree of reliability, efficiency, and accuracy.
  • Analyze and interpret tissue production data, troubleshoot issues and recommend improvements to standard practices.
  • Operate in strict accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and our Quality Management System (QMS) framework.
  • Thaw and expand primary cell stocks.
  • Seed cells into Biowire tissue platform or well plates.
  • Maintain cell and tissue cultures.
  • QC tissues using standardized imaging-based assays.
  • QC new batches of tissue platform using standardized biochemical and cellular assays.
  • Prepare reagents.
  • Collect, analyze and compile standardized data into easily interpretable reports or presentations complete with conclusions and recommendations.
  • Complete checklists, logs and records per SOPs and QMS procedures.
  • Verify proper function of laboratory equipment.
  • Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment.
  • Maintain reagent and supply inventory levels.
  • Maintain laboratory organization.
  • Log and store reagent and supply deliveries.
