Requirements
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician license.
  • Five years of pharmacy or clinical experience.
  • Advanced skillset in clinical care, such as refill protocol, medication access, or medication reconciliation, or in retail operations, such as inventory management, 340B analysis, or workforce management.
  • Certification as a pharmacy technician with the North Carolina Board of Pharmacy.
  • Certification as a Certified Pharmacy Technician through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Excellent skills in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and database applications.
  • Regular attendance on-site is required. Typical business hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with occasional weekend, holiday, or evening coverage.
  • Ability to lift and carry 25–35 pounds and push or pull 50–100 pounds.
  • Ability to document patient care in an electronic health record.
Responsibilities
  • Assist in the interviewing and selection process of pharmacy technicians.
  • Participate in and coordinate new employee onboarding and training for technicians.
  • Conduct technician competency assessments and provide real-time feedback on job performance.
  • Coach team members to achieve success.
  • Conduct technician meetings to ensure staff are updated on departmental and system communications.
  • Perform clinical chart audits using established review protocols.
  • Manage daily operations of technician-related pharmacy services, including developing, updating, and reviewing standard operating procedures for technician duties.
  • Participate in frontline duties as needed, including prescription refills, medication access, and patient access center work.
  • Resolve patient complaints and complex medication-related issues through communication and follow-up with department heads and administration.
  • Identify and communicate the need for adequate resources to meet patient and staff needs.
  • Participate in departmental system changes to ensure staff understand process and workflow changes.
  • Complete projects and new initiatives for pharmacy leadership in a timely manner.
  • Identify process-improvement opportunities based on feedback and experience.
  • Communicate with the pharmacy leadership team.
  • Monitor and identify opportunities to improve productivity and efficiency in human and material resources.
  • Supervise pharmacy technicians in the patient access center, refill protocol, medication assistance program, and population health roles.
Desired Qualifications
  • Knowledge and experience documenting patient care in an electronic health record and/or pharmacy dispensing software.
  • Spanish-speaking skills.
  • Graduation from a pharmacy technician training program.

It serves as a branch campus for UNC schools of medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, and public health, hosting the UNC Health Sciences at MAHEC and the UNC Gillings MPH program. It operates multiple clinics including Family Health, Ob/Gyn, Dental Health, and Community Pharmacies, and runs the region’s only high-risk obstetrics practice as a Federally Qualified Health Center Look-Alike. Its mission is to grow and improve the regional health workforce and health outcomes through hands-on clinical care, education from high school to graduate programs, and collaborative research.
