Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a similar and compatible field is required.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in mechanical engineering and maintenance is required.
  • Strong knowledge of rotating equipment, piping systems, pressure vessels, and mechanical seals is required.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements and safety standards in a chemical plant setting is required.
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and software is required.
  • Knowledge of Mechanical Integrity best practices, including API 610, API 650, API 570, API 510, PAI 579, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis, and Risk-Based Inspection methodologies, is required.
  • Knowledge of mechanical codes and standards, including ASME, API, ANSI, and CSA, is required.
  • The employee must be able to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, manufacturer's literature, diagrams, and schematics.
  • The employee must be able to work outdoors, in protective clothing, at elevated locations, and in awkward, confining, noisy, dusty, chemically odorous, and adverse-weather environments.
  • The employee must be fit for duty and able to lift or move up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • The employee must follow Environmental, Health and Safety procedures and complete required Environmental, Health and Safety training.
Responsibilities
  • Maximize Overall Equipment Effectiveness through systematic evaluation and improvement initiatives to enhance equipment availability, performance, and quality.
  • Conduct root-cause investigations to identify and resolve issues affecting equipment reliability and operational efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with electrical safety standards and industry regulations in maintenance activities.
  • Support daily plant operations by addressing plant issues to ensure safe and reliable functioning.
  • Identify and address site inefficiencies by implementing corrective actions for equipment bad actors.
  • Assist instrumentation and electrical maintenance technicians with subject matter expertise, including safe electrical work permitting and electrical training.
  • Review and optimize preventive maintenance activities to enhance effectiveness and resource allocation.
  • Support Environmental, Health and Safety initiatives through safety rollout activities.
  • Provide engineering support for high-priority maintenance needs and outage response.
  • Maintain equipment registers and manage obsolescence, identifying risks and developing mitigation plans.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for electrical and instrumentation management of change.
  • Support capital projects from conception to commissioning, ensuring maintenance readiness for new installations.
  • Develop maintenance procedures to streamline technician workflows and ensure proper verification and validation.
  • Coordinate with site maintenance, operations, and project groups to improve fixed-equipment reliability and mechanical integrity.
  • Develop or revise inspection, repair, and overhaul procedures as required.
  • Develop preventive and predictive maintenance plans.
  • Facilitate Failure Mode and Effects Analysis and corrective actions.
  • Manage small capital projects.
  • Participate in Environmental, Health and Safety meetings, forums, job safety analysis activities, and program improvement.
  • Report Environmental, Health and Safety incidents, including injuries, near misses, and releases.
Desired Qualifications
  • Knowledge of vibration analysis and thermography is a plus.
  • Experience working with third-party engineering consulting firms specializing in engineering evaluations is preferred.
