Your Mission ⚡

As a Senior Product Engineer at Census, you’ll be working closely with the founders and the engineering team to improve every part of the user experience for an app used by some of the best data & operations folks in tech.

We have a small and senior team of engineers with years of industry experience from places like Amazon, Google and Dropbox as well tons of startup experience (we have 6 former YC founders on staff).

About the Role

You will make contributions to all parts of our product, which is a Vue app powered by a Rails API.

You will inform much of our early culture and be part of creating a truly special team.

You will be an active member of our sprint process - we do short sprint plans once every two weeks and 20 minute daily virtual standups.

You won’t burn out – we are building a great product while creating a fun, family-friendly culture.

You will learn some of our lingo, like "do nothing", "done done", "ponies" and "ur-*"

Once you Apply 🗓

We try to make decisions quickly and have crafted a simple 3 step interview.

1. A one-hour phone call with a member of the engineering team to learn more about you and run through a small technical problem together.

2. A take-home coding problem. You can use any language you want. The problem takes a few hours and we give you a week to complete it. Time pressure is not the goal.

3. A day-long hackathon with a few members of the team. We will bring you in-house (virtual during pandemic times or as otherwise appropriate) to build a small project with some other engineers and a PM. This gives us a chance to see what it’s like working with you, and for you to get a feel for us.

Requirements

• You can build things end-to-end (we don’t consider an engineer’s job done until the code is tested and in the hands of customers).

• You have a Bachelor’s degree in CS, Engineering, Math or equivalent experience.

• You thrive in ambiguous environments where you get to work directly with customers and make decisions that have a huge impact on the business.

Compensation 💰

Salary $150,000 - $210,000
