Requirements
  • Successful completion of a state-established or other training program meeting the requirements of 42 CFR § 484.36(a), a competency evaluation program, or a state licensure program meeting the requirements of 42 CFR § 484.36(b).
  • Have good verbal and written communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Have a valid driver's license and a reliable, insured automobile for making home visits.
  • Maintain current cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification.
Responsibilities
  • Perform assigned personal-care services promptly and attend to patients' requests.
  • Meet patient safety needs and use equipment safely and properly.
  • Provide baths, back rubs, oral hygiene, shampoos, and bed-linen changes as assigned.
  • Assist patients with dressing and undressing.
  • Assist with patient meals.
  • Provide skin care and observe patients' skin to help prevent tissue breakdown over bony prominences.
  • Report patients' conditions and significant changes to the assigned supervisory nurse.
  • Assist with ambulation and exercise as instructed by the primary care nurse or therapist.
  • Offer and assist with bedpans and urinals.
  • Provide assigned light-laundry assistance.
  • Perform range-of-motion exercises and other simple procedures as ordered when competency has been demonstrated.
  • Provide respite for the patient's family or caregiver when on-site, as appropriate.
  • Keep the patient's living area clean and orderly as assigned.
  • Follow the organization's documentation, care procedures, and standards of personal and professional conduct.
  • Respect the patient, family, or caregiver environment and the patient's personal needs.
