Meritage Hospitality Group, a US franchise operator, reported preliminary 2025 results showing sales of $617.7 million, down from $668.8 million in 2024. The company recorded a net loss of $26.3 million compared to earnings of $8.0 million the previous year. The decline was driven by margin compression from record-high food and labour costs, particularly beef inflation, and elevated discounting. Fourth-quarter sales fell to $145.0 million from $168.7 million year-over-year. The company closed 21 underperforming restaurants, incurring $13.7 million in one-time charges. Looking ahead, Meritage expects substantial EBITDA recovery in 2026 through cost-saving initiatives and potential relief from reduced beef tariffs. The company operates 365 restaurants across 15 states, including its Morning Belle breakfast concept, which achieved 8.7% same-restaurant sales growth.
