  • Legal qualifications and a significant track record of achievement at senior executive level within the banking and finance industry, a tribunal, an external dispute resolution scheme, a regulatory agency, a related business entity, or private practice.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to quickly identify the key aspects of complex issues, independently and efficiently manage a busy caseload, and maintain a clear outcomes focus.
  • A high level of written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills for dealing with a wide cross-section of the insurance sector and the broader community.
  • Resilience, focus, determination, and the ability to manage challenges, external criticism, and public scrutiny effectively.
Responsibilities
  • Make decisions, individually or as part of a panel, on standard and complex complaints in accordance with AFCA rules and fairness principles.
  • Provide professional and technical leadership across AFCA.
  • Coach and mentor adjudicators, case workers, and other personnel.
  • Support the development of AFCA approaches.
  • Present at external conferences as a subject matter expert when opportunities arise.
  • Support AFCA’s relationships with small business and consumer groups, government bodies, regulators, AFCA members, member organisations, and other ombudsman networks.
