Requirements

Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic support to the Senior Director of Development Communications and direct the department's workflow in the Director's absence.
  • Serve as the principal communications liaison to the Development Resources team, strategize on communications needs, identify solutions and approaches, and manage the creation of communications products and materials.
  • Serve as editor and webmaster for the division intranet, managing content development and placement, updates, and ongoing maintenance.
  • Represent or serve as delegate for the Senior Director of Development Communications, direct departmental workflow, represent the Director at meetings, and coordinate assignments with other copywriters as needed.
  • Serve as lead copywriter and content developer by creating original content for newsletters, social media channels, emails, websites, advertisements, and other channels.
  • Develop relationships with story sources and subject matter experts across the University to build editorial strategies and create pathways for collecting and promoting philanthropic content.
  • Conceptualize, write, and edit consumer-facing fundraising materials from brainstorming and message development through delivery of the final product, including brochures, proposals, PowerPoint presentations, and case statements.
  • Work closely with designers to ensure the creative vision is executed properly.
  • Serve as a principal writer of unit-based campaign prospectuses and work with development officers to translate fundraising ideas into persuasive white papers.
  • Serve as lead writer for special projects requested by the President, Provost, Senior Vice President for Development and Alumni Relations, and others, including correspondence, acknowledgements, speeches, and talking points.
  • Create and produce donor recognition pieces and award submissions as needed.
  • Maintain a clear and consistent brand voice while adapting language styles for different target markets and communication channels.
  • Edit content produced by other team members.
  • Assist the Strategic Events team with communications needs related to events.
