Requirements
  • 3+ years of hands-on commissioning/startup experience in cryogenic systems or similar (e.g., LNG, air separation, gas processing, Liquid H2)
  • Deep understanding of cryogenic processes, including gas expansion cooling via JT effect and system-specific cooldown management
  • Prior experience conducting full commissioning cycles—from mechanical completion to initial operation
  • Practical safety orientation that emphasizes efficiency and avoids unnecessary production delays
  • Proficient in troubleshooting and evaluating performance of systems and equipment
  • Skilled in process simulation tools such as HYSYS, Unisim, or Pro/II
  • Strong grasp of applicable engineering standards (ANSI, ASME, API, ASTM)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively
Responsibilities
  • Lead commissioning and startup of cryogenic facilities, ensuring safe operations and performance targets are achieved
  • Perform detailed P&ID walkdowns and generate punch lists to resolve plant discrepancies
  • Execute machinery field run tests with vendors, validating machinery controls and protection systems
  • Oversee control loop checks, ensuring proper function of alarms, shutdowns, valve operations, and compliance with Control Narratives and Cause & Effect Matrices
  • Tune PID loops using Ziegler-Nichols or similar methodologies
  • Manage cooldown and startup of cryogenic systems, using techniques such as Joule-Thomson (JT) effect, expanders, and various heat exchanger types (BAHX, CWHE, PFHE)
  • Start up compressors, gradually shifting from recycle mode to normal operation
  • Dry out, derime, and defrost cryogenic systems in preparation for startup
  • Develop operating manuals and startup procedures based on engineering designs
  • Participate in design reviews, HAZOPs, and contribute commissioning feedback during early project phases
  • Conduct training sessions for operators both before and after commissioning
  • Perform site inspections and document lessons learned for future improvements
