Residents and visitors can continue to rely on regional transit connections throughout Grey, Bruce, Wellington, and Dufferin Counties, with both Guelph Owen Sound Transportation (GOST) and Grey Transit Route (GTR) 2 confirmed to operate through December 31, 2026. Funding required for 2027 operations will be included in the annual budget for Grey County Council consideration. GOST provides public transportation between Owen Sound and Guelph, with stops in Chatsworth, Williamsford, Durham, Mount Forest, Arthur, Fergus, and Elora. The service offers an affordable and convenient option for commuters, students, visitors, and residents travelling throughout the region. From the Owen Sound Transit Terminal, GOST departures are available daily at 7:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. The service operates seven days a week, including statutory holidays, with the exception of Christmas Day. Passengers can also connect with additional transit services in Owen Sound and Guelph to continue travelling beyond the GOST route, expanding access to employment, education, healthcare, recreation, and other destinations across the region. To support active transportation, GOST buses are equipped with a bike carrier that can accommodate up to two bicycles. The carrier is available at no additional cost on a first-come, first-served basis until late fall. Bike carrier spaces cannot be reserved in advance. The service extension coincides with ongoing work on a regional transit study involving the Counties of Bruce, Dufferin, Grey, and Wellington, along with Saugeen Mobility and Regional Transit (SMART). The partners are working with Dillon Consulting to develop a draft unified regional transit plan that will help guide future transit services across the region. As part of this work, interim bus service is being expanded while the regional study continues. Dillon Consulting is expected to present a draft regional transit plan to participating councils and the SMART Board this fall, with final decisions regarding a long-term regional transit model anticipated in 2027. Residents interested in learning more about routes, schedules, fares, and transit connections are encouraged to visit the transit service websites or contact Owen Sound Transit. Watershed Governance Framework - complete! Carmen Pavlov April 8, 2026 Malahat Nation Lands and Environment department is pleased to announce the completion of the Watershed Governance Framework project! Malahat Nation Lands and Environment department worked alongside Dillon Consultants to create a Watershed Governance Framework. The Malahat Benchlands and Shawnigan Creek watersheds face pressures including population growth, unsustainable extraction from water bodies, overdevelopment, infrastructure deficits and issues, agriculture, forestry, and mining uses, and pollution. Through investigating governance models that are culturally appropriate and sustainable, Lands and Environment worked to develop a framework that helps guide the protection and restoration of Malahat's watersheds. Guiding principles that influenced this document include: long-term benefit to the Nation, respect for culture and customs, innovation, preservation and protection, ecosystem-based management, sustainability, cooperative relationships, self-sufficiency, and opportunities for Malahat members.
