- A Medical Doctor or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from an accredited institution is required.
- Completion of a full residency program is not required.
- Board certification or eligibility is not required.
- Provide comprehensive wound care to patients in nursing facilities.
- Manage patient outcomes based on clinical expertise and direction.
- Perform debridement and use advanced dressings as part of wound healing care.
- Apply amniotic tissue and other biological therapies.
- Build a work schedule collaboratively with the team.
- Participate in continuing medical education, conferences, workshops, and online courses provided through the physician wound care training program.
- Experience in wound care is welcomed but not required.
- Background as a surgeon, family medicine physician, or internal medicine physician is sought.
Skilled Wound Care is a physician-led provider of wound-care services for skilled nursing and long-term-care facilities. Clinicians deliver bedside assessment and treatment while collaborating with facility teams on documentation, prevention, and follow-up. The organization also trains and supports physicians building specialized wound-care practices. The provider brings specialist physicians into post-acute facilities and integrates recurring rounds, bedside treatment, care-team communication, clinical documentation, prevention, supply decisions, and education intended to improve healing and reduce avoidable escalation.
