Requirements
  • An Associate's degree in Nursing is required.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Nursing is preferred and must be obtained within 8 years of hire.
  • A registered nurse license in good standing for the state of Michigan is required.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required by completion of core orientation.
  • Critical care or Advanced Life Support and other certifications may be required for some registered nurses depending on the unit.
  • The nurse must be able to read, interpret, and analyze data from various computer systems and equipment to establish an appropriate plan of action.
  • The nurse must be able to communicate constantly, verbally, in writing, and electronically.
  • The role requires sustained alertness and concentration during computer and detailed work, the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, and occasional heavier pushing, pulling, or material-handling tasks.
  • For applicable Bronson South Haven Emergency Department assignments, SALT triage, ESI triage, NIH Stroke Scale, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, and Trauma Nursing Core Course certifications are required within the stated post-hire periods.
  • For applicable Labor and Delivery, Mother/Baby, or Antepartum assignments, Electronic Fetal Monitoring certification through PQF or NCC is required within the stated post-training period.
  • A current Michigan driver's license and proof of insurance are required for applicable BAH assignments.
  • For applicable Swing Bed Facility assignments, the nurse must complete the annual Workday CBL on swing-bed patients.
  • For the virtual registered nurse role, the employee must be able to project their voice through audiovisual technology, speak understandable English, and use a computer keyboard and mouse.
Responsibilities
  • Manage care delivery for patients throughout their length of stay to achieve quality outcomes and timely discharge.
  • Use the nursing process, including assessment, planning, diagnosis, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Coordinate care provided by other professionals and delegate appropriate nursing tasks within staff members' scopes and abilities.
  • Provide appropriate physical care based on patient acuity and complexity.
  • Document and communicate patient responses, resource consumption, and anticipated needs during each tour of duty.
  • Collect comprehensive patient data, assess physical and developmental needs, review vital signs, and document nursing histories and patient needs.
  • Analyze assessment data to identify patient problems, confirm problems with patients and families when appropriate, and document expected outcomes and plans of care.
  • Develop individualized plans and interventions using clinical pathways, patient input, and information from the healthcare team.
  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments using approved nursing techniques and evidence-based interventions.
  • Maintain patient comfort and safety, initiate patient education, and coordinate implementation of education plans.
  • Organize and delegate patient-care interventions and evaluate the effectiveness of care delivered by self and others.
  • Evaluate patient progress, planned interventions, and responses toward expected outcomes, and document findings.
  • Participate in quality-improvement activities and use results to improve nursing practice.
  • Maintain current nursing knowledge, professional competency records, and continuing education activities.
  • Provide age-appropriate, culturally and ethnically sensitive care and participate in self-evaluation and peer review.
  • Share knowledge with peers, contribute to a supportive work environment, and collaborate with patients, families, and multiple health disciplines.
  • Protect patient autonomy, dignity, confidentiality, and rights; serve as a patient advocate.
  • Integrate research findings and evidence-based practice into patient care, policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Consider safety, effectiveness, cost, and practice impact when planning and delivering nursing services.
  • Participate in nursing councils, hospital and unit committees, staff meetings, and professional leadership activities.
  • For scrub registered nurse assignments, interpret procedure cards, assess case carts, obtain missing supplies, anticipate physician and surgical-team needs, monitor patient condition, update case information, oversee proper equipment and instrument use, support circulators, perform scrub duties across services, and take rotational after-hours call.
  • For applicable Swing Bed Facility assignments, document and provide care according to swing-bed requirements and cover shifts at designated hospitals based on acuity and staffing needs.
  • For virtual registered nurse assignments, conduct admission screening, patient and family education, discharge planning, medication dual acknowledgments, diagnostic-testing questionnaires, patient-safety initiatives, and virtual care-plan documentation using secure digital platforms and electronic health-record tools.
