Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in Information Management, Business Administration, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • At least 6 years of progressively more experience in management within large, diverse data technology environments.
  • Direct experience with one or more enterprise enterprise resource planning platforms, such as Workday, Oracle, SAP, or PeopleSoft, including environment or tenant strategy and configuration, security role design and access management, or change management, release planning, and incident or problem management.
  • At least 3–4 years of people-management experience, including hiring, coaching, performance management, and building diverse, high-performing teams.
  • Ability to partner with senior Human Resources, Finance, and administrative leaders to align systems, policies, and processes with institutional strategy.
  • Proven success operating in a matrixed governance environment while balancing central standards with distributed stakeholder needs.
  • Excellent written and oral communication, technical documentation, user liaison, and personal interaction abilities.
Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement the University of Washington's Workday technology strategy and vision in support of institutional priorities and alignment with other UW Information Technology strategies.
  • Define and execute roadmaps to improve utilization of and investment in the Workday ecosystem and increase business efficiencies.
  • Drive the development of Workday data security plans in collaboration with Information Security and Risk and Compliance Services.
  • Provide expert consultation on challenges, complexities, and solutions related to Workday operations.
  • Develop a participatory decision-making structure, work with staff to develop implementation plans, lead change management, and develop processes for monitoring and reporting outcomes.
  • Evolve governance models, architectures, infrastructure, and technologies in anticipation of future needs.
  • Manage unit budget and personnel resources.
  • Develop and cultivate partnerships with institutional business leaders across the university to align initiatives with institutional challenges and opportunities.
  • Build working relationships with Finance, Planning and Budget, Human Resources, the Office of Research, UW Medicine, and Academic and Student Affairs stakeholders regarding Workday needs, priorities, and challenges.
  • Cultivate customer relationships and maintain trust in UW Information Technology.
  • Communicate updates, insights, and recommendations to stakeholders at all organizational levels to drive decision-making and alignment.
  • Manage vendors, optimize the university's investment in Workday, and influence product roadmaps.
  • Collaborate on license and contract management activities to align service levels, performance, security, and privacy with university priorities.
  • Build and oversee cohesive, high-performing teams, including the Workday Coordination Services team.
  • Oversee centralized intake and coordination of changes to all Workday modules through Workday Coordination Services.
  • Facilitate collaboration between technical teams and business partners and support business prioritization of work.
  • Develop and maintain a service catalog supporting institutional initiatives and university goals.
  • Lead teams in planning and executing Workday projects, including system upgrades, module implementations, and process improvements.
  • Oversee and optimize daily Workday operations, including tenant and configuration management, security, and access controls.
  • Provide technical guidance and lead collaboration with business units responsible for Workday employee help activities and end-user support.
  • Define project scope, objectives, and deliverables, and manage resources, budgets, and risks to ensure successful outcomes.
  • Ensure services operate according to policies for governance, security, privacy, and business continuity.
  • Drive incident and change-management practices.
  • Anticipate emerging trends and technologies and stay current with product roadmaps.
Desired Qualifications
  • Direct experience with Workday HCM, Payroll, Finance, or related modules, preferably in a multi-campus or multi-entity environment.
  • Experience leading the full operational lifecycle of an enterprise resource planning or Workday platform, including upgrades, new module implementations, and continuous process and control improvement.
  • Experience working with information security, privacy, and risk or compliance teams on access control, data protection, and audit readiness for Human Resources and Finance systems.
  • Experience in highly decentralized organizations, research universities, higher education, or public-sector environments, including familiarity with their governance, budgeting, and regulatory context.
  • Operational leadership and service orientation, with operational skills, customer service commitment, and leadership presence.
  • Ability to provide clear direction and execute complex projects, influence across organizational boundaries, and apply effective change management.
  • Experience with service and portfolio management practices.
  • Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and operate effectively with minimal supervision.
